Training in between long runs (Read 19 times)

Sarahmusiq

I’m training for my first half-marathon. I ran 9 miles on Saturday, which is the longest run I’ve ever done, but I’m going out of town next weekend so I’m going to do my long run on Friday. I’ve had some soreness last week and injuries in the past so am cautious about over-training. Would you recommend doing one or two runs before next Friday and what mileage? I’ve been running 2-3 times a week (3-6 miles) between my long runs. Thanks!

It's hard to say without knowing more. What is your total weekly mileage like? Generally one run is not going to make or break your training. The only thing I'd be watching out for, based on the limited numbers you've provided, is that your long run isn't too high a percentage of your weekly mileage. Your long run shouldn't be 50% of your weekly mileage. How far out is your race?

Is your plan to do 2 runs and then your long run on Friday?
