One day at a time

My daughter's middle school XC team held a race against the parents today.  It was a two-mile course on a muddy, hilly trail.  When I run there occasionally, I'm lucky to hit 13 minutes per mile!  I didn't want to come in last place, though, so I pushed and ran it just under 22 minutes.  Whoo hoo, I wasn't last!!   I was for awhile, but then several over-ambitious moms and dads had to slow down or walk, and I passed them.  I wish I was fast like my kids, but that's life!

      hey yall

14 miles this morning, about 9 of them in the rain.

      i'm beat.

lots to read here, everyone is really posting lots!

rick...night before race is always a good time for restraint. lol.next time!

      chuck...good to hear about chad

joe...rain here today, just in time for long runs and halloween fun...

jay....cool new pic, i have the same problem!

berry...good to see you have a new race chosen! oh! thats betty! hahaha!

anj...good job geting in your run at lunch even with out the last mile

jennyhill....go with your plan, seems everyone is different. tapering before a half isnt as big as taper before a full. so a laid back week before sounds ok.

juli...closer to the half maybe do longer intervals? idk. if y ou added it in to begin with you can always take it out. or look at another plan and try to match what it says

ezec...love the pic. i always start out too fast in 5k. if i ever pace the first quartermile i will PR for sure....

juli...you can def go the distance on the half. be careful about pace, if you want to do the half you have originally planned to do. maybe this will be a good practice for race day, pacing, fueling, etc.

spicegeek...tapering is so nervewracking but so nice for the body! hope everything runs smoothly between now and sunday. you will rock! i just know it!

sue....wine in CA nice. good luck on the new job!

jeff...good to see you! is this jeff in arkansas? the landscaper guy?

lisaT...wow, great race! sounds like a real cool disney event. weaving in a nd out will def slow you down. big races are tough for pacing. great run! sounds like you are going to do great in memphis!

larry....hope we are not going to make too big of a dent in your cool site!

rob...good thinking on the upper body work, any thing spice geek says should be true!

kaenman....great to be done with W1.

melody...hope you get back to 100% soon

cara...great intervals. i really liked coolrunning as well. Xtrain for me will be trying to keep the arm workout regular. DS is not as cooperative as he used to be! lol

bobev...thanks for the welcome. congrats to your dd! your race schedule sounds tough!

      lorie....of course you missed running!

doc...that ice is some awesome stuff!

rebecca...great to get over 20 mile week!

teacia...welcome! hope you get backa to running soon.

      jeanette...love your pic!

      cyndi...great job on 6.1

      willamona....ROFLMAO!!!!!!

vixidu...thanks for the welcome. great intervals

teresa...cool to race your ds! great idea!

      love to all

Ok, I don't know where note pad is or anything about this stuff. Not good on Cmputers.

I'll learn this weekend when I have time to play.

Guys, if you want space between just hit enter twice.

going for 8 tomorrow. Thinking of throwing a little spped work in maybe next week or the next. Don't want to rush this knee. I'm not making any promises on a full but just going that way as long as the knee holds up. If it messes up again I'll stick to halfs.

Hey ,I found you guys!!! very busy site!!! I've been working alot the last 2 1/2 weeks and haven't gotten in as many runs as I wanted to.Ran 3.5 today in 32.10 felt really good to get back out there!! My left butt cheek and calve are still sore and knotted. Sitting on a ice pack as I type this!!Smile  Still foam rollering and massaging them with a tennis ball.  I like the Garmin uploading this site offers. I still have to learn my way around.  I have a Haunted Hustle 5k sat morning, costumes are encouraged!! So any sugguestions???? Something easy to run in. Don't have any shout outs, there are 9 pages already and I didn't have time to read them all..Happy running everyone!!!!

You don't have to be fast to make me proud of you.  I love your endurance and dedication.

When we want to talk about fast around here, we'll talk about your DS, now that dude is fast and gettting better all the time.

            lazy distance runner

hey guys just a quick post before bed. i got a hilly 6.25 in tonight in the rain, no intervals because i raced on sunday. the run felt good but i hammered the first big hill and used up a lot energy and i felt kinda sluggish on the following hills. overall pace was 8:25.

seems like everybody is making their way over, i'll try and get to some shoutouts tommorrow

larry i'm right down the street from you in new milford.

              good night and happy running!

Good evening all. I am on the road thru Thursday and the hotel I am in has a “fitness room” that only has an elliptical (doesn’t work), recumbent bike (doesn’t work) and a treadmill (does work – yea!!!) so my cross-training today was a 30 min walk. I have some resistance bands that I got when I was doing PT a couple of years ago and I meant to bring them but. Key word – “meant”, operative word – “didn’t”. I will do my weights on Friday and Sunday I suppose. Have 40 minutes on the schedule for tomorrow which will be on the treadmill – sigh…

I have a sort of dilemma I need some guidance on. I was planning on doing a 5K on Saturday but since it is an 8 mile day for me, I was going to just tack on 5 miles after the race and run a loop home (the race start/finish is only about a mile from my house). Is that advisable and/or will I even get the benefit of a long run if it is broken up like that?

Anj – Great plan for the week. Nice leaf peeping on your ride!

Doc – Woot! On the new shoes!! I did the same thing on my last pair – same as the last ones, different color. Good to hear the knee is cooperating. Great workout Monday! Love the avatar pic. Go Phillies!! Kick some Yankee butt!!

Mac – Way to get that long run in the nasty weather! You are definitely ready. ESPN had a segment – “What’s wrong with Peyton” – because he didn’t throw for over 300 yards – LOL!!

Teresadfp – Sounds like a fun race.

misswendy – You are really kicking it!

Rick – Got it – no pizza and beer the night before!

Chuck – Glad to hear about your son. Notepad – Start – All Programs – Accessories. Right click it and select Send To – Desktop to create an icon on your desktop. Good luck on the 8 tomorrow.

Betty – Congrats on signing up for your next half. Many more people from this thread sign up for that one and they’ll have to rename it “Joe’s Army Half”

newjogger – Hope you’re feeling better.

Jay – You are REALLY doing awesome! I have been running (off and on) for 15 years and finally got serious in May and I am putting up nowhere near the times that you are. Seriously, awesome!

Juli – Hope you got that run done in the rain. Sorry, I have no advice about whether to run the half this week-end. I probably wouldn’t but as they say “that’s just me”.

Ezec – Still a great time and a learning experience too.

Spice – Thanks for the info on the bib number. What time does the race start? T-4 (or maybe less??) until you see EC former trainer!!

Sue – Glad you made it over! That 4-day week-end sounds wonderful! I wanna go!!

Lisa – Great job on the 13K. My half will go through Epcot and Magic Kingdom and I am expecting there to be lots of runners and craziness. I run a 10K every year that has 50,000 runners/walkers in it though so hopefully it won’t be too bad.

Larry – Thanks for the welcome.

Rob – Glad it’s not a stress fracture and yes, better safe than sorry. Easy for me to say . LOL on the “teasips”  what a hysterical reference!!

                kaenman – Welcome to W2!!

Melody – Hope you’re back in the swing soon too. Glad you’re getting some cooler weather.

Cara – Great pace on the intervals. How was the pumpkin workout and for the matter, WHAT was the pumpkin workout?

Bobev – You will learn tons from these guys. I know I have.

Rick – Love body pump! Have a good run tomorrow.

TBMcKay – Ooooo, I love Portland and would love to run the half there in October! I  will probably opt for the Disney Wine & Dine Half though as its closer to home. Great job on your 7.

Teacia – Welcome! Have you already started a training plan for a 12/20 half? There are many here that can give you better advice than me but you might be a little short on time to train properly if not. The Picture option is under Options – Forum Preferences (i think).

Snowman – Thanks! The half I am running in January was $90 (or maybe it was $99, I registered over 8 months ago so I kind of forgot) so I feel like this one will probably be more to cover the cost of the party.

                Jeanette – Cute pic!

Lorie – Great to have someone to run with. Love it when that happens.

Cyndi – Nice 6.1. Good luck with the rheumatologist.

That’s it for now. Good runs folks!

                Hangin' with Hal!

                  Howdy y'all,

Nothing new to report, day 2 of no running.  I'm starting to go crazy!  But hopefully only 12 days left on the DL... Smile  Lot of posts to catch up on in only a day...guess that just goes to show what happens when you have a reply button that actually works!  lol

kaenman - Stress fractures generally affiliated with repetitive stress, it's where your bones have micro-fractures.  I'm no doctor (but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night...LOL), but the important thing is to make sure you take your rest days!  Stress fractures generally happen when you don't give your bones time to recuperate.  I did a poor job of that last week, which is why I was a bit worried.

Melody - Yeah, it's finally starting to cool off some this way.  But I heard the forecast of highs in the low 80s I think Thursday.  But since I'm not running, that's fine by me!  lol Wink  I've got a golf tournament though, should be fun, mostly just using it as an excuse to get out of work.  So let me get this right...you ran to step class?  I can understand why you'd be tired...

Cara - A pumpkin workout?  Be sure to let us know what that entails!  As for the venison, unfortunately that deer got up and ran off after I hit it.  Otherwise he'd have been in the bed of my truck headed for the nearest processing plant!  LOL  (If you've ever had roadkill processed, YOU might be a redneck...)

bobev - Howdy!  Good luck in Cowtown, I'll be in Big D that following month.  Looking forward to being back home for a few days!

Lorie - Glad to hear you got a good training partner...always helps!

anj - That Pilates is no joke!  I think I survived 2 sessions...lol

Rick - Good luck with your upcoming 5Ks!  I should be able to maintain my crazy schedule, give up a little bit now for better results in the long haul.

doc - Good workout yesterday!  Good luck with the hill work too, sounds nice with y'all's leaves changing.  Everything's still green around here.

Joe - How'd the speed work go?

Rebecca - Congrats on breaking that 20-mile barrier!  That's quite a lofty goal, completing a marathon within the next year, but definitely do-able.  Keep posting your training and race results!  It helps with accountability Smile

Teacia - Welcome to the group!  We've got a few runners from the Jax area, I think some are doing the River Run early next year. (January, right?)

macd - Shoot, it happens.  Sleep's important too!  At least you got PiYo in!  (Still quite a workout in and of itself!)

Snowman - Watch out for the trolls!  Unfortunately, it's prime season for races down here in the Gulf South.  But better safe than sorry.

Jeanette - Glad you made it over!  How's your leg feeling?  And believe me, I know the feeling about not running...

Cyndi - You can get to a 2:30 half, but just in case, have Spice bring her trainer Wink  BTW, saw the tat pic on the Active site...cool!

Vixi - Thanks for the welcome!  Good avg pace for your interval training.  Looks like you got a busy week ahead!

newjogger - Sorry to hear you're not feeling all that well...is it just seasonal?

Chuck - lol on the doc's comments.  I guess it's good to have one that's sympathetic...mine just looks at me funny.

Teresa - That's cool that y'all got to do that...good job!

Wendy - 14 miles?  Wow!  Did y'all get dumped on up your way?  We just got the light, steady rain down this way, but I think it was heavier east and west of here...the modified "Biloxi Bubble"

Megan - Glad you could make it over!  Good run, sorry to hear you've been working so much you can't get it out as much.  As for costumes, I saw a couple on Pat Forde's column on espn.com:

SEC refs (22). Walk the neighborhood in an official's uniform throwing flags at well-mannered and law-abiding children! Costume comes with SEC logos, extra-thick glasses and two stickers to affix to the striped shirt: "I HEART FLORIDA" for the front, and "SUSPENDED" for the back.

SEC coaches crying about SEC refs (23). Choose a visor, logoed shirt and matching pacifier in school colors -- Tennessee, Arkansas and Mississippi State colors are especially popular this year. Box of Kleenex sold separately.

Tim Tebow (25). One of our biggest sellers. Costume comes with a white No. 15 Florida jersey, ice pack for head, trash bag for candy and/or vomiting, and eye black reading "Dinged" and "Up." And a halo, of course.

Ezec - Good 6.25 today.  Are you doing any hill work?

Jenny - Sorry to hear the fitness room at the hotel sucks!  As for your dilemma, I gotta be honest, trying to run after doing a 5K is tough.  I had the same thing a couple of weeks ago.  I was gonna try to run about 8 after doing the 5K, but as I was telling Wendy and her DH after we got done, wasn't gonna happen!  If you can, you're a better person than me!  LOL on the Joe's Army Half!  I like the ring of it!

Well, another busy day tomorrow, so I better get to bed.  Run well, y'all!

                  - Rob

Good morning.  Just a quick post, I ran my three miles on the TM this am at a nice 9:45 pace. haha.  that's all i have been doing for the past three weeks ... running two to three miles and pushing.  oh, along with workouts. Smile   I don't start my training till next week.  I am hoping to do some races before the Moore Half.    Have a great day all.

Morning gang!  Did my 30min run at the gym yesterday, followed by a swim.  Rest day today.

Willa! - Yep, its me!   Um, well not at the moment!

VixiDu - Thanks for the welcome!    Which race are you planning on?

TBMcKay - Yep, His & Hers Forerunners, just what you need!   I have the 305, I used to have the 201.  The 305 is a big improvement over the 201.  The newer ones have some extra options, however I don't think they have any real advantage over the 305.  Last I checked the 305 was selling for $149 on Amazon.

Newjogger1 - Hope you feel better soon.

Chuck - Sounds like good news on your Dr. visit.  Any update on Chad?

Teresa - Cool, bet that race with the kids was fun!

Misswendy - Wow, 14?  Sounds like a big jump!  Weren't you running single digits not too long ago?  Oh...

Megan - Glad you found us, great photo too!

                      Ezec - Good run.

JennyHill - LOL, on the TM not working!

Betty - Great TM run, you're doing really well!

                      Joe

                      JoeInTX

Cyndi - I'm adding your pic/text here too. Looks

Its sideways but its the best I can do....it means "I will endure".  This is right after it was done...My DD took the picture.

Thanks for all the advice on running a HM Saturday. I was really hoping every single person would say-you can do it! Or, no, don't do it!  It would have made my decision easier!

However, I think I'm going to try it. I talked with two ladies this morning that I run with, and they are signed up to run the HM this Saturday, and then the St. Jude's in December.  One of them has run one ten miler, but she said she's going to take it really easy and use it as a "training run".  She is quite a bit slower than I am, so I know I can hang with her.

I had an 11 miler scheduled for Sunday anyway. That's what made me consider doing it in the first place.

I have not officially signed up yet.

Oh, another thing-it is the first half for my local area. It would be fun to get in on the starting end!

If I change my mind, I'll let you know. Right now I'm planning on running the first 11 miles steadily, then walk/running the last two miles.

                          Wish me luck!

                          Juli

                          cyndit

Thank you Joe!!! It took me all night to get my stupid avatar picture to be of me.  After that my daughter needed her computer back to send silly college applications so I had to give it back.

Raining to beat the band this am so I decided to snuggle back down and take a rest day today....an hour later my friend Spice popped into my head to remind me that it wasn't raining in my basement and to get my sorry butt downstairs and hit the weights....which I did for an hour.  So much for guilt free rest days!

Sooner or later I'll get to the shouts!

Cyndi - You're welcome.   LOL on your DD and the "silly" college apps.  And good job on getting workout in!

                                Good Morning All!

I had a good run this morning, 4.5mi.  But it was only 35* outside.  I started running in March, so I haven't experienced much of the cold weather running yet.  I was fine until about the last 1/2 mi then I could feel my calves tightening up quite a bit.  I made sure to stretch really good when I was done but other than that I'm not sure what else to do.  Hopefully my body will adjust to the weather and I wont feel held back because of the cold.  I've got a 5k this weekend, and it suppose to be pouring and fairly cold that morning, so I guess I better get use to it.

Hope everyone has a great day!!
