Are we there, yet?
It seems I never started this thread when I set up the new thread in the RW Team Challenges Forum.

2024 Races:
03/09 - Livingston Oval Ultra 6-Hour, 22.88 miles
05/11 - D3 50K 05/25 - What the Duck 12-Hour
06/17 - 6 Days in the Dome 12-Hour.
I had a bad run in with the heat last week. It stopped me 5 miles into my run and I had dry heaves and retching. Fortunately I was running on campus and was able to get water and ice from some of the staff at a youth soccer camp that was using the facilities. They were super sweet and caring. I've been keeping it easy and trying to run at cooler times of the day since but that usually means waiting until evening. Before work is not an option since I am not getting up before 5:00 AM.
Yikes! That's a little scary.
This week is looking to be hotter. I got up at 5 am to get my run in before work this morning, but that only works for easy runs up to about 5 miles. Any longer and I will be too late for work. And when I roll out of bed into my running clothes, my body is not awake enough to do harder paces. The plan called for "easy fartleks" today, and that's about as much quality as I can do at 5:10 am.
Take it easy out there, George.

Yes definitely everyone that has trouble with the humid hot conditions stay out of danger this week!]
I have found that if I was to ever choose an ideal weather for me to live in and run in, I would choose the US SW: I LOOOOOOOOOVE that dry heat, my 6 days in Nevada was some of the most awesome runs I've had! One day, I headed out for a 22+ miler from the deep south past the Welcome to Las Vegas sign, along the strip and up to Fremont Street and back and I even ran into some familiar faces. If anyone knows Katrina or Marathon Mitch, you'll enjoy these ones!
2015 Goals and PRs:
5k - 17:59 (18:05); 10k - 35:59 (36:42); HM - 1:19:19 (1:19:59); FM - 2:49:59 (3:05:46)
Damn pictures aren't posting right....more here!
For the record, it was about 105F when I started my run, about 115+F when I finished (2 hrs 50 mins).
Greg continues to rack up the miles with 91.46 for 2nd individual last week, less than 2k behind the leader.
And those are some great pics.
A quick update on team status. Ice Mom and Start@60 have both been on IR for a long time and I haven't seen any activity from them on RW or RA so they are being dropped from the team and the game.
With this week's nag list out we're in danger of losing yet another member for non-posting. If we do, that would bring us down to 14 active members.
On a separate note, I'm counting down to my 6-hour race this Saturday. Current forecast has 74F (23C) as the temp at the start and climbing to 84F (29C) by the finish time with a dew point of 68f (20C). There's also a 23% chance of t-storms.
Hey Greg, Katrina's coming to NC24 in September. Hint, hint.
Haha, I would love to take part in a race like that just to see how I would do, but my focus is on the Green Mountain Marathon on October 13, 2013. I would love to set out and hold a 6:45-6:50/mile pace for the whole race, if I could do that then I have a really good shot at bettering my marathon PR by 6-10 minutes.
As for Katrina, she is worth a million bucks: she'll go out of her way to help people, can talk all kinds of running with you all day, and is so amazingly nice. I wouldn't be surprised to hear that she puts up 100+ miles in that 24 hour event.
Lousy week for me, I stepped awkwardly in a pothole last Thursday and it totally ruined my week (I shut it down for Friday/Saturday and on Sunday only did 3 miles) so hopefully I didn't derail the goal above with a 43 mile week. I've given the ankle lots of easy runs so far, and while I'll try some faster/longer distances in a day or two, I'm going to also volunteer at a 70.3 triathlon this weekend - that'll be my 4th piece of volunteer work for the Calgary athletic community....compared to 8 races. Wow, my season is sucking this year!!
Finished my 6-hour race and it wasn't pretty.

Ushering in a new month. The summer is slipping by too quickly. My mileage slipped a bit due to heat and beginning the month feeling tired. My only double-digit run all month was the 6-hour race. Hopefully this month will be an improvement. Thanks to SueInTN for pointing me to an article on Ultrarunning on walking. I need to pay a lot more attention to this aspect of training.
Thanks, Team. For the first time in a long time we have 100% posting.
It took me a couple days to notice, but I've passed 1,000 miles for the year. I didn't get to that point last year until the first or second week of November.
Hmmm. Talking to myself again.
Tried my second effort on back to back long runs on Monday and Tuesday. Both efforts have fallen short. In the first back in mid-June I ran 10 of 18 the first day and pushed myself to finish all 18 regardless of pace on the second run. This time I made 15 of 20 on day one and only 12 of 20 on day two. Of course this time I had only one day's rest after a tough ladder series: 1600m, 1200m, 800m, 600m, 400m, 200m starting at 10K pace on the 1600m and working down to 800m pace on the 200m. Rest intervals were 3:00, 2:30, 2:00, 1:30, 1:30.
