And there should be plenty of fast runners with a cash purse of $2,000 divided among the top three male and top three female finishers overall. The start/finish area for the race is the NCSHP Driver’s Training Facility in Garner. The facility is located on Tryon Road between the Garner Road and Hammond Road Intersections. The morning begins with the 8K race starting at 9 a.m. while the 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk starts at 10:30 a.m. No official times will be taken in the 1-Mile race, but participants will be able to see their times on a digital clock at the finish line. The 8K course is certified. Splits will be provided at each mile and the half-way mark. There will be 2 water stops on the course. Timing will be with the ChampionChip. In the 8K cash awards will be given to the first-, second-, and third-place male and female finishers in the amounts of $500, $300, and $200, respectively. Additionally medals will be given to the top three male and female finishers in each of the following age groups: 15-under, 16-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, and 65 and over. Finally the top three male and female troopers to finish will also receive awards. There also will be team competition in the 8K. Teams will be limited to a maximum of seven members with the first five finishers on each team comprising the team score. Medals will be presented to the top five finishers on the top three teams. Teams can register the morning of the race. The entry fee for the 8K is $20 and for the mile it is $10., After September 1, the fees increase to $25 and $15, respectively. Entrants can also order a “moisture wick style” t-shirt for $10 if their entry is postmarked or received NLY September 1. A limited number of shirts will be available on race day. State troopers (regardless of their state) and current Crime Control and Public Safety employees can enter for free. The free entry form does not include a shirt. In addition to the two races there will also a Highway Patrol and Fitness Expo featuring many of the vehicles and equipment used by the NC Highway Patrol All profits from the race will go to MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving).
