Box HP-5, High Point, NC 27265 (Alana Holyfield - 336/878-6293 - days or aholyfield@hprhs.com One of the Triad's most popular races, this event drew a crowd of over 400 entries in 2005. Tommy Boles (17:17) and Amy Mercer (19:37) were the overall winners. Scott Dvorak (14:29) and Vicki Mitchell (16:40) hold the course records. The fun run, for which no official times are taken, begins at 8:00 a.m. and the 5K starts at 8:30 a.m. In the 5K, merchandise awards will be presented to the first three men overall, the first three women overall, to the first three master (ages 40-49) finishers of each sex, and to the first three Grand Master finishers of each sex. Medals will be presented and to the top three finishers in each of the following age divisions: (both sexes) 10-under, 11-15, 16-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-69,70-74, 75-59 and 80-over. All fun run finishers will receive a medal. Both courses start and finish at the Millis Regional Health Education Center across the street from the High Point Regional Hospital in downtown High Point. For a copy of the course map, click here and type in "NC97042PH" when it asks for Course Number. For directions to the starting line, go to www.mapquest.com and type in 600 North Elm Street, High Point, NC 27262 for the location of the Millis Center. The entry fees are $20 for the 5K and $5 for the fun run. After September 1st, the fee increases to $25 for the 5K. T-shirts are guaranteed to the first 350 entrants in the 5K. There also will be a post race drawing for merchandise. Runners can pick up their packets and late entrants can register at Omega Sports in High Point on Friday, September 15, from 5-8 p.m. and also at the Millis Regional Health Center beginning at 6:00 a.m. on race day. This is the 20th anniversary of this event, and to commemerate the occasion, there will be special Spirit Challenge. The organization or group with the most number of runners and walkers who finish the 5K will win a "beautiful award."

This is a new race on the North Carolina coast this fall. The event is managed by the Cape Carteret Aquatic & Fitness Center for the benefit of Eckerd Youth Alternatives. The day begins with the 10K and 5K both starting at 9 a.m. The one-mile race begins at 10:30 a.m. In each race awards will be presented to the top three males overall, to the top three females and to the top three finishers in each of the following age divisions: 1-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, and 70-over. The entry fee for either race is $15 on or before September 17. After that date, the fee is $20 up to and including race day. To download a mail-in entry form, click here.
