Good morning!  Strength training, 5 easy TM miles, and stretching at the gym.  Hot here this weekend...90s and sunny.  Running and pool time for me!

Flinders:  Hope the PF subsides and is just a minor flare up.

AmiK:  Fingers crossed you get to run pain free next week.

    cbus:  I know, I know...Smile

onemile:  Good info on the taper.  I hate the slothful feeling that comes with a long taper.  I'm hoping the shorter but steeper one in Hansons will keep me fresh but rested too.

Yes exactly. My taper for my first one was way too long and I just felt sluggish on race day. But with the Hansons taper I was like wow my legs feel great.

Nice job on the 5.  We are getting low 70s for the weekend. (not to rub it in or anything Joking Wink

Flinders - I would rec to you that you do some research on the B2R exercises that strengthen the feet and all the other small running muscles that we tend to neglect. http://www.born2run.com/STRENGTHTRAINING.aspx

I purchased the level one equipment after reading Eric Orton's new book, and I really enjoy the exercises.  I backed off of them when I got started due to my injury but have since started up with them again.  In my own untrained opinion, I think they may help with preventing PF.  I walk around varied surfaces in vibrams five fingers an awful lot also.  I did this to strengthen my feet instead of using arch support to prevent the pain.  I havent had any PF issues since my first flare up in my first year.  Strengthening the foot/arch etc I believe is the key.

Indy, thanks for the rec.  I'll look into it.  I have been working on some of the stabilization and strengthening exercises in Jay Dicharry's book Anatomy for Runners (A book I'd recommend as an interesting read, generally, as a primer for the non-specialist on the physiology of running), but more to focus on my hips, glutes, and general kinetic chain. I think it is probably an all-of-the-above issue, so both foot strength and strength up the chain will help.  I also try to avoid wearing shoes when at all possible, but it can be tough to do in a city.

              Nice 6.

I'm hoping to run something longer tonight.  Maybe 14.  Trying to figure out how to get in the miles with that 5k on Sunday when I would normally do a "long" run.

I ran 5.5 quick miles (sorta SOS) last night. 1.5 miles before the end of my run I hear a strange noise coming from the entry of a house that I am running by. I take a look and its an older gent that is trying to push a large object through the front door. He is obviously struggling so I stopped and asked if he was okay or needed help. He said he could use an extra set of hands. After my "sweat" disclaimer I walked up to help and saw that the large object was a huge smoker/grill for BBQing and on the other side of it was a man that stood 6' - 6'2" and weighed no less than 425 lbs. We wiggled and inched that thing in the front door before I asked what the plan was and why it was going in the house. His explanation was that he thought it would be easier to go through the house than around and through the gate. So, needless to say he figured out quickly that most backdoors are smaller than the front doors so we went back out the front door and ended up taking it around the house and through the gate. You would think that someone in a house like this one would use a tape measure before such a conquest. This did give me a total body work out in the middle of my run so there's that. The older gent was thankful for the help as I think he was starting to feel the effects of the struggle.

that's funny. Yes, he offered me some ribs from his July 3rd cook. I'll be in Kansas City MO though. Plus, its not on the diet for the smoker mover workout - the irony.

Hey all. Haven't posted in a while, went back to my lurker status. Oops. You all seem too fast for me!!! I know I'll catch up eventually.

I've been doing fine with running. I can't remember my last post... but I ran 16 miles last week, with 13 of those being Fri-Sun. Sunday I ran 4 tm miles with 3X800 thrown in the middle @ my slooow current 5k pace (8:00), and it felt tough. A year ago I was running 4-6 mile tempos at that pace. Oh well, I'll get it back hopefully. I have 13 miles so far this week, with one more run planned on Sunday, 4 miles w/ 2 @ tempo. Today I ran 7 on the TM because I'm a wimp and didn't feel like running in 75* and nearly 100% humidity. The windows were fogging. Gross.

Stinky clothes - Only had that problem when I used to run in *gasp* cotton. Now I have no trouble, but I also wash with cold water.

Ack, baby is calling! Plus the inlaws are coming over at 5 and my house needs cleaning. Gotta run!
