I barely use anything but I like the Flipbelt too.  In fact, for marathons, I don't carry anything: no bottles, nothing but the gels, so a short or skirt with pockets is a must.  I just hate carrying anything.

16 with 10 at GMP for tonight.  Should be good enough to wear shorts. I wanted to practice with the shorts I will likely wear on race day.

I did it for a 20 miler in training without a problem but on marathon day one of them did chafe me a little. Maybe I didn't trim it good.  I didn't actually notice it though during the race. Only after when I saw some blood on my shirt.

          Smashy!!!

            Hey all,

Still sick, but feeling much better today. No more achy-ness. Now it's just mucus congestion, which is resulting in a nagging cough. I think I'll be ready to run by Monday. Maybe even the weekend, who knows.

Mdawg, haven't seen the doc yet. I have exactly what my DD and DW have. Observing them, they got better after about 7-10 days. So I expect the same for me.

            Great running everyone!

Glad you are feeling a bit better Cbus!

I just ordered three pairs of shoes because I'm not sure what color I'll want to wear on race day and all of my current pairs have more miles than I'd like for race day.

When I start getting nervous about my race I usually start buying stuff for it.  I'd like around 50-100 miles on my shoes on marathon day and currently my newest pair in rotation is around 150 miles.  And I'll need them eventually. And there was a coupon! Big grin

Feel better, Cbus.  I think I had something similar plus the asthma.  This is week 3 and I an still congested.

                    Ball of Fury

Had a really good tempo run this morning...finally!  I was getting a bit concerned because those are my goal HMP runs and it seemed like I was struggling with them all!  Today, I did 11 miles total, with 7 in the middle at 7:57/mile average and I felt pretty strong the entire time..yay!  On the name topic, my given name is Amanda, but my parents always called me Ami and both of them were super, super common when I was growing up! Oh yeah, and you youngsters make me feel old because I was born in 77!  But hey, I can get a BQ 5 minutes slower than you can, so there! Big grin

Ami's QOD:  When is the best time to run a tune-up HM when you are training for a marathon?  I asked this in B&B also, but wanted your opinions as well.  For Disney, our HM was 9 weeks out, which I feel like was a little too early, but I don't know the best time to run one.

CBus:  Glad you are feeling a bit better....hope you get back out there soon!

Onemile:  Thank you for answering on my other thread.  I know you said you weren't sure if you would do it differently, but I have a question.  Do you feel like you learned any information from your HM?  What I mean is, did it in any way change your marathon plan or training plan?  Good luck with your run tonight!  I always end up buying new outfits for my goal races...do you do that?  DH gets annoyed!

Docket:  Glad to hear your kitty ate and cuddled!  Enjoy your 8 tonight...hope the congestion is better

Josh:  I am sorry your PT appointment wasn't great, but it sounds like your legs rebounded for P90X?

Flinders:  I am so with you on the wind...just sick to death of it!

Bago:  Congrats on getting into MCM!  I would like to run it someday!  So many races, so little time!

Banshee:  I was just thinking about you yesterday!  Glad to see you are back and ready for more!

Indy:  Welcome back...hope you had a nice trip!

MDawg:  Nice 7!  And when we run Dopey, it will definitely be easy running for fun!

Rollcast:  I have a Spibelt that I use to carry my gels...really like it!

Cmb:  I am glad the MD appointment went well and you are making progress!

Handheld stays in the right hand.  There's a neoprene strap thingy that you slide your hand into.  That way you don't have to grip the bottle if you don't want to.

Hey everyone! It's been a while.  Things have been crazy hectic between work and the job search.  Shamrock went well (new half PR!) and Oakland a week later went well but I ran too fast--just 2 minutes slower than my PR a week earlier.  I'll post RR's eventually.

I need to go back through a few pages this afternoon, but I think I've missed like 30 pages, so I definitely won't be making it all the way back through Smile I'll definitely get on that this evening though.

So I know there are a couple of lawyer friends on here, too.  I need some non-running advice from y'all.  Like I said, I've been working on the job hunt and was just offered a job at a 32-lawyer firm that's well respected in the area.  Problem is, they offered me $235 more per year than I make right now at my clerkship, and once healthcare premiums are taken out, I'd actually be taking a pay cut.  So I'm obviously going to try to negotiate on that.  There are discretionary bonuses but I have no clue what the range is there, though I'm assuming not much.  They also didn't say anything about offering maternity leave in the letter, which I'm going to want to know about one day.  Anyway, I guess my concern is that I sort of thought I'd always be doing corporate law in some big firm, but at the same time, I wonder whether it's worth it to still aim for that at an expense to my personal life.  Any input? I'm not sure what size practice the other lawyers here are in (Docket, you were a government atty as well, right?).  Obviously as a law clerk I need to get another job but I have about 6 months left before my clerkship ends and I don't have a definitive end date, so there's wiggle room there.  What to do, what to do.

                          Sorry, end rant.

I wouldn't worry if you're struggling on HMP runs. About a week before my fall goal HM, I ran 4 at GHMP and it was really tough but I somehow managed it on race day.  You're in the middle of training and it should feel hard.  Nice job on today's run!!

I feel like I ran my half well enough to justify the pace I had used for training but I felt like my legs were just tired the whole time and I think I could run better rested (but it wasn't my goal race so that's okay).

But the way I have trained using Hansons (and this is something you'll have to decide for yourself), is that I used the paces correlating to my half marathon that I ran BEFORE starting the plan.  So my 1:46 HM translated to an 8:30MP (which is what I've been using for the program).  But I knew that in order for me to actually feel comfortable using that pace on race day, I would have to get faster during the program.  So I ran a 15k at the end of week 8 (that was when the speed workouts were winding down and Hansons recommend trying to zero in on your GMP before the strength workouts begin).  That race told me that I had gotten faster and that 8:30 MP might be realistic.  So then I ran the half this past weekend as another gauge.  It basically told me that I'm probably ok sticking with that 8:30 pace.  If I had run it much slower, I would probably question if 8:30 was doable.  But I guess it made me feel like I shouldn't pick a more aggressive MP but at the same time, I shouldn't pick a more conservative one.

So I'm happy with that because I've been practicing the 8:30 for the entire program so I like the idea of using that pace on race day.  MAYBE I could have run the half better if I had done it in a different week. But Hansons also cautions about changing your GMP close to race day, so it might be better for me that I didn't run faster and start to think GMP should be faster. I don't know.

Some of this will be answered on race day when I see how I do Smile

And YES, race outfits. Another thing that taper does is make me buy a ton of running clothes that I don't need! Smile

Akalei- I work at a big corporate law firm in a boutique litigation practice within that firm.  What that means is that basically, i work with about 12 people on specific types of litigation (class and mass action management).  I used to work at a big firm in a big litigation department doing general litigation.  There's a huge difference even though basically the firms are the same size and type.  The smaller group is far more manageable because I know everyone's schedule and they kind of know my work load.  I know where the work is coming from and when it is going to be busy versus not, so there is more predictability than there was at my old job.  In the big group, i was working 15-20 hour days regularly and billing around 3,000 hour years.  I had no life.  Basically, billing 2000-2200 / year I still have time for work and a personal life and don't foresee it being a major issue having a family (most of the people i work with do, including women).  I chose this job over a 50-lawyer firm and a massive paycut because I didn't think that the couple of extra hours to myself a week was really going to make the difference or solve the problems inherent in being a lawyer in private practice (big egos, personality clashes, long hours and hard work).  It also really helps to have a firm that has the infrastructure you need, ie. someone to fix the copier at 3 am, and secretarial OT when necessary.  Hope I can help a bit.  Feel free to PM me or shoot me an email if you want
