Just found this site: http://www.swimplan.com/.  It automatically generates suggested workouts for you based on your preferences.  It does not offer a training log, discussion forum, or technical advice/help on swimming.  It is ad-based.  And it is (other than ads) free.  I'm about to try my first workout with them this afternoon.
