I figure I would start a thread specifically for races that require lotteries etc. Currently I plan to try for HR100, WS100, UTMB, and Wasatch 100.

I am signed up for the Bear 100 again in case I get into none of those, and I will sign up for Zion 100k next April for my birthday.

I think my best bet is WS100 after 4 years of trying, my dread is that I get into more than one and I have to decline. I was going to sign up for Superior 100 again, but my wife wants to do it so I would have to support her instead of running it. If she doesn't get in she will try for Mountain Lakes 100.

    Slower but happier

I will likely apply for WS but pray not to get in. With one ticket.  i am hopeful. I would rather do it in a couple years.  To bad you cant accumulate tickets without applying (at least thats my understanding).  It would give you some flexibility where it comes to planning.  I suppose there is some reason you can’t.

The other races interested in around here dont have lotteries.

I'm sure you won't get in the first try, check out the website they allow you to skip a year or something like that without losing your tickets?

I think the odds of getting in with only one ticket are about 1 in 40. The one year skip is also a one time only option, so probably best used if you've been trying for several years and don't want to start from scratch again.

For all the years I've been running, I've never run a race that had a lottery.

          Pain is my friend

I plan to put in for WS100.  This will be my 2nd year putting in. I am ok if I don't get in.  It would be better for me in a year or 2. I plan to run bear 100 this year.

Only lottery I've done was for the Knee Knacker 50k, a local race that's been going for 30 years and is super popular. I'm not going to do that race this year. Lots of people do lottery every year, since it takes a few years sometimes. I'd like to do CCC eventually or maybe utmb, pricey for travel though

I’m in for WSER with 16 tickets and hoping to not be drawn.

Here are the approximate odds this year:

                    Year 1, 1 ticket: 43.88 out of 3178 entrants drawn = 1.381%

                    Year 2, 2 tickets: 34.61 out of 1262 entrants drawn = 2.742%

                    Year 3, 4 tickets: 37.14 out of 687 entrants drawn = 5.406%

                    Year 4, 8 tickets: 46.74 out of 444 entrants drawn = 10.53%

                    Year 5, 16 tickets: 37.13 out of 186 entrants drawn = 19.96%

                    Year 6, 32 tickets: 33.41 out of 93 entrants drawn = 35.93%

                    Year 7, 64 tickets: 17.09 out of 29 entrants drawn = 58.95%

Thinking of putting in for Superior.  I'm sure it depends on the year, but does anyone have an idea of what chance I have to get in?  I'm also thinking of running it with my wife and putting in as a team.

I think you have a better chance of getting in than not...

So many races are now WS100 qualifiers, even some easily doable 100k's. Instead of making it easier it should be getting harder imho.

It is getting harder. There are far fewer races on that list than there used to be. When I first got in, almost any trail 50 would do it. They keep raising barriers, but the applicant pool still grows.

Those 100Ks have time qualifiers, unlike the 100Ms. And I don’t think any of them are especially easy.

This is what happened to Boston in the 70s and early 80s until you had to run 2:50 to qualify in the open category.
