8/22 there are 16 spots left in the race

I am on the fence if I am going - Leadville showed me what I will get when I am fat and stupid.  For me it was the Leadville 70 mile race.  To recover and lose a minimum of 15# in less than 4 weeks is a tough task.

What I do have going for me is that I am really pissed off.

Long dead ... But my stench lingers !

A pissed off DB could achieve anything he wanted to.

I think I am angry enough to give Northcoast a try - Fat and less then ideal fitness.

Long dead ... But my stench lingers !

2011 NorthCoast is filled - Registration is Closed

I hope the post the final list soon - I would like to see who got the final 11 spots

PS - I am starting to get pissed off - Any time I start to actually do work outs I seem to tweak something - Either I am getting old or need a stride analysis.

Sat was a nice round of Hill Loop repeats - Not specially hard - Good work

Monday a reasonable 18 miles with 6 x 5 minutes at CV - Monday night I was cruising 9 miles, just because it was so damn nice out and tweak goes the calf / upper achillies.  I was running a bit fast for an easy run - But common man!

Unlike before Leadville (Same damn calf / upper achillies) I will try and ignore this one - Lots of calf massage and some icing + ibuprofen.

            No time to be injured.

NorthCoast will be a crap shoot - I have never run a 24 hour this heavy - Hoping to be @ 210 (Currently 215)

My goal is to not do anything stupid - To be conservative from lap #1

Realistically - I think I have 135-140 possibility in me, with an outside chance at 145 and more realistically < 130.

                                          Slow     Medium     Fast

            1st 50                    8:15       7:45         7:30

            2nd 50                   8:45       8:15         8:00

            remander             35 Mi      40 mi       45 Mi

As long as I can hit 100 in under 18 hours I am not allowed to pull the plug of pain until the horn sounds.

The Top 2 get a auto spot to Poland in Sept 2012 - I can not fathom how I have a chance - But if the Lads let the 2nd spot slip to 140-145 range then I have a long shot.

Men of interest - Although the last 11 spots may have some studs - Will update when they post

            •  Serge is the most Consistent guy around right now
            •  Phil is up there just behind Serge
            • Nick Coury is super talented
            • Late entry - Byron Lane - Running well right now and very talented
            • Then there are a few guys I recognize as tier 2 – But could have a break out:  Johnathon Savage, Brian Coughlin, Matt Shaheen, Scott Brockmeier
            • I am sure there is 1-3 guys that are either 1st timers or I do not recognize

I do think that the field is weaker this year – Dan Rose is running Spartathon and there are not really any big name 100 mile people

Long dead ... But my stench lingers !

Of course WrigleyGirl is on the list and would fit in with the top 4 above - But I am told she is a DNS for the race and needs to get her ass healed up!

Im looking forward to this..but am very pissed @ myself for not being prepared at all. The foot has really bothered me and could end up being my downfall.

I figure I could walk close to 75 miles in 24 hours..and that my be exactly what I end up doing. I plan on being on the track the whole time..but really am going to be more of a spectator. I dont see that I have a shot at 100. On paper it would seem do-able. But I know many runners that are 10X better prepared than me have fallen short of even that. At least I will have a baseline for next time.

There are not many runners smarter or tougher than you and that is what it  takes for you to get > 100 is gutsy smartness.  Its all about leaving yourself in a postion to be moving well after mid-night ... all the best moves get made in the dark.

Congrats on the backside picture in UR from Badwater.

                    Do you have a crew?

Kim Martin is always super fit and has hit low 120s - Capable of mid 130s - Maybe this time?

Sabrina Moran is a young fireplug - Just having run 137.82 at 20 in 24 (Philly)

David Ploskonka - 29 year old with some great 100 mile times and some fast 50k times - Could be a player

Ray will drive you crazy if you hang with him too long as he is a non-stock talker

I believe (If weather is reasonable) we will see 3 or more women > 130 miles

On the men's side - Serge will run 150

Phil & Nick - It depends on pacing - Phil is in > 150 shape

All I can hope for is a moderate cold rain most the day - As all the skinny runner types do not have the sheath I do to protect from the cold Smile

Not sure if you are mixing your mesages, or confusing me..No backside pictures of me at Badwater Smile

Yeah, I signed up with NERC..my Brother in Law is active with them and they will have a large crew..so I plan on setting up with them..even though I only know my BIL out of the whole group. Hopefully, I will just need a place to stash my stuff..and not too much additional attention.

I dont expect to get to 100 miles..but I'm going to keep to a 5mph pace from the start..and not concede that goal. I've always done most of my running at night. I just want to stay as fresh as possible until evening.
