Good luck Berylrunner this weekend at RUFA!!!
Thanks RWD.
The "race" went very well. I finished my 8 lap goal (49 miles, 20,500 gain) way ahead of schedule and called it a night after 18.5 hours.

Nice elevation on that RUFA Berly
Krash, nice week, what r u building to mpw wise?
fnkyhd. Glad u found us
my last week: 46 miles, was able to get outside for 15 mile LR at least once roads were plowed. also with all the snow got in some snow shoeing on the trails which is much better than postholeing.
Who is doing black canyon this year?
2020 goal: couch to 5K, currently working on the couch block
afaik omr and seamax. i dropped. illness then hernia.
I am running the Antelope Island 100 in march. mpw?
finally got caught up on the feb thread. Beryl, congrats on the 18.5h run! Gatsby, nice pics! gkad you had a decent race. i get cramps for all those reasons too. Drock, are you racing this weekend? good luck! i hear it's going to snow!
ive been slowly crawling back into shape from being sick for a month. i am surprised how much fitness i lost, like when it starts going it goes fast! finally getting strong again and then i got an inguinal hernia. must have been from all the coughing. anyway it's manageable so far so i scheduled laparoscopy after the chuckanut 50k and whiskey basin 88k but plenty of time to recover and retrain before white river. and i am officially in at Mt Lakes 100 in sept. which will be my true goal for the year. maybe that's just an excuse for me to be less competitive in the other races? hmm. anyway i am only doing one workout a week and the rest is getting as much vert as i can running easy pace. i think this will be wise. mmm? yes?
Good luck and happy racing to all Black Canyon runners!
Funky, sorry BC was not in the cards for you. In November I busted something in my ribcage from coughing so I completely sympathize with you on your ailment(s). Sounds like you are still doing Chuckanut next month?
Krash, mpw = miles per week
14 miles today. I'm sort of in cruise control at the moment. But I'm #9 on the Tahoe Rim Trail 50 waitlist (July) so I'm assuming I'm going to get in. Did Fort Ord 50k in February, have Marin Ultra Challenge 50k on March 10 and Napa 50k on April 7. Treating those as training runs for time on my feet and climbing. Plus going to start ramping up mpw. Hovering around 40 at the moment. Plus going to get more consistent about core work. As I've been saying for years.
Enjoy the long weekend!
4/14/24 Napa Valley 50k, Calistoga, CA
7/20/24 Tahoe Rim Trail 56 miler, NV
9/21/24 Mountain Lakes 100, OR
mpw = miles per week u are targeting for your 100 training.
ah got ya. I plan to run about 80-90 mpw for the next 3 and then back off. I have never run this many or trained this hard for a 100 miler. if all goes well it will be fast.
So I keep forgetting that each month is a new forum thread, and just found this. I didn't run Black Canyon due to some problems around/below my left knee, which have baffled me for about six weeks now. Instead, I spectated max for the second half. I'm always impressed by what he accomplishes. Anyhow, I'll let him share the story if he chooses, but it was very different weather from last year.
I haven't posted my weeks since Sean O'Brien, but I'm back at it now. Overall a good week for me. I'm focusing on tempo pace now for a few weeks. Sunday, I tried only breathing through my nose based on a suggestion from Joe Uhan on irunfar. It was tough, but it served the purpose of keeping the pace easy. (M, T, and F were on the TM)
Weekly SummaryMonday, Feb 12, 2018 thru Sunday, Feb 18, 2018
OMR sorry to hear you were out of BC
Gatsby: that looks like a great schedule.
MY week: we took a long weekend vacation and went snowboarding/skiing in Wisconsin. So I missed a couple days.
I did get beat up snowboarding pretty good but had a good time. I am following loosely Pfitz 12/55 marathon plan, but
I am sticking to his pacing/HR ranges closely. I just made up stuff last year so I introduced a little discipline this block.
I am enjoying the workouts and structure. I am hoping to be in good shape by the time the trails are more runnable. Its
warming up here this week, so I am sooner or later going to have to emerge from my dark basement into the light of
running outside more. I've been watching a lot of Olympics to pass the time on the TM. Also, pretty motivating.
Mon: off
Tues: 6 mi General Aerobic with some hills, TM
Wed: 5 mi General Aerobic, TM
Thu: 11 mi Medium Long Run @8:55/min, outside!
Fri: off
Sat: off again
Sun: 16 mile LR @9:20 with 10 miles MP@8:00-8:30 (cut down last 3 miles to 7:40-8:00) all on TM
(the lower #is foot pod pace the upper is TM pace-I have no idea which is right)
total: 38 miles
With 3 days off and only 38 miles. I should feel rested. But with the snowboarding (aka falling), ice skating, and LR with 10 mile MP, eating too much buffet, I am feeling beat up. btw, if you want a mental challenge of a different type, try running 16 miles on a treadmill! That is a new PR for me and hopefully one. I will not ever break.
Last week was a big week for me. I can't remember the last time I ran this many miles.
Mon: 4 quick right after work and 3 more with my daughter when I got home.
Tue: 4x800 m @5:34. 10 miles total
wed: 12 miles
Thur: 8.2
Friday: 26.2 on antelope island
Sat: 14 miles then 3.1 with my 6 yr old.
81 miles.
This week I am hoping for more miles. This last cold front and snow may slow me down.
