New IAU Regional Championship 24-hour Race (Read 21 times)

Are we there, yet?

With the paucity of information this could be totally chaotic:

    1) no firm date set, just some time in summer, probably August

    2) Sao Paulo, Brazil could be warm for a 24-hour race

    3) with no firm date, there's no way to know when qualifying ends

    4) last minute announcement means a lot of top runners may have already made plans for their key races

    5) weren't there some complaints or issues with the 2016 Olympics in Brazil?

Looks like USATF jumped the gun announcing this. From an IAU rep:

The US announcement with respect to the Continental 24H event was premature. Brazil has not signed the contract or submitted their EOA (Event Organization Agreement). They have until Monday to submit. They tell me they are working on it. But until I get that document in my hands, there is nothing to report.

Also, August is winter in Brazil, so we should be OK there. I may or may not try to go based on the exact date -- and of course whether it actually happens. I do see an existing 24-hour race in São Paulo on 8/25, which would be bad timing.

I checked some weather sites for averages. Looks like the average high and low are 73 and 55 with low humidity.

Ouch, warmer than I'd have expected. Thanks.

Sao Paulo sits on the Tropic of Capricorn which puts it about the same distance from the Equator as the Bahamas,
