Hi, I have'nt posted until now, but I have enjoyed learning from everyone's posts. I feel I should say thanks to some of you for helpful posts that have helped my training. I just built up to my first Ultra. I did the PCT 50 yesterday. Due to a helecopter crash it was moved to the "San Diego 100 miler" course. It was tough, but I'm very proud to have completed it. It's time to recover and focus on swimming more for a while. My next two goal races are the Nobel Canyon 50k & the Gatorman 3 mile open water race (swimming) in September.
      Find the fun.
Congrats, TrailSurfer! Don't be a stranger around here.

Trailsurfer - how did you like the SD100 course? I haven't heard much about that one. Also, good luck in your distance swim. Let us know here and in the Swimmers group how it went!

Speed my steps along your path, according to your will.

Thanks Fatozzig and Carl A. I am very happy about my first 50 miler. I will post in the forum later this weekend. Just got home from work and have a busy household right now.

Welcome, Buzzard!  Let us know how you do, and come back often.  If you're interested, there's a monthly thread on the Trail Runners forum.  Lots of great support both here and there.

                  Hello eveyone.

I have been lurking in here for about a week or so now. I am planning on my first Ultra this spring (DWD 50 miler) and thought I might be able to learn a little bit from all of you. I am not a fast runner by any means but I do enjoy the challenges it has to offer and take pride in that.

I am assuming you are going to HELL to do DWD50?

We have a DWD in WI

I used to live down in St Joe MI for 3 years - Didn't run back then - just drank, ate and worked a lot.

Long dead ... But my stench lingers !

Welcome, Hawk!  Your first ultra is a 50-miler?!? Dang!  I'm doing my first at the American River 50 in April.  The training my coach has set for me is already making me nervous - and tired.

                         Dopple Bock,

Actually we are going to Gnaw Bone in May. I won't be in this Beautiful Country when the Hell race is run. I may be a few thousand miles away. I have talked my running buddy (Corland) into it as well. Neither of us have ran farther than a Marathon before so it should be interesting. Also, whats wrong with Drinking, Eating and Working as long as you add a little running in as well. Hell, I am drinking right now. Cheers

                        Fatozzig,

I can relate about the training. I have been doing a little research on it aleady. We don't plan on ramping up our training until Dec-Jan. Cory is looking at 80-100 weeks where as I am thinking 60-70. Good luck on your Ultra.

                        Kevin

                            Hello eveyone.

As mentioned above, I'm new here too.  I don't know any ultra runners IRL, so I hope to find some online help.  I've run 6 marathons in the past 3 years.  They were all goal races.  My 4th marathon was my best, despite training significantly harder for the last two.

I need something different.  I hope that adding more long, slow distance in the spring will improve my mararthon time next fall.  I really don't have an ultra goal, other then finishing.

I've already learned some things from all of you.  thanks

Welcome, Corland. There's a wealth of knowledge here and on the trail runners forum.  Come back and visit us soon!

                                Newbie here...

I consider myself to be reasonably computer literate, but for the life of me I cannot figure out how to post a topic on the ultra runners forum. Please help.
