Leslie - I thought I'd pop over here and join up, since I will likely run more ultras and would be interested in how the "real" ultra runners train and such.  All wisdom tidbits are welcome!

Life is a headlong rush into the unknown. We can hunker down and hope nothing hits us or we can stand tall, lean into the wind and say, "Bring it on, darlin', and don't be stingy with the jalapenos."

Hey, Holly!  We're not a busy group, but there's lots of experience here.  Kickrunners has an ultra thread, too, that is very active.

Hello all....another newbie pops into the forum.

I have recently completed my first 50 milers after several attempts.

(Key West 50 and Crooms 50 mile fun run)

Can you tell I live in Florida?

I'm eagerly awaiting December when I will attempt to compete and complete my first 100 miler (Ancient Oaks 100 - http://www.fleastcoastrunners.com/Races-Ancient_Oaks.html)

Thanks for opening the group for everyone.

I welcome any and all advice, thoughts or comments....even name calling and such :-)

              Welcome, Faceless Runner.

If I lived in Florida, I'd be tempted to see how many days of the Wickham Park Marathon I could manage.

Good luck in your Ancient Oaks training!

Speed my steps along your path, according to your will.

Nice work, faceless, good luck in that first 100!

I'm going to see if I can get into Umstead next Spring since that's one of the few 100 milers I think I can fit into my schedule in the near future.

                  Hey everyone,

I decided to give the Ultra's a try and signed up for a 50k.

I have lots of questions but will poke around in this forum first.

Thanks in advance for the advise.

                  Ojo

Just signed up for my first 50k in March!

ooo I forgot to introduce myself.

Been running about 2 1/2 years. Tried a couple of 1/2 marathons before jumping into a double marathon 14 months after starting running. Still not done an official marathon 26.2 event.

Since then did a 70 miler this year in July and looking to do some 50k's, 50 milers, mountain ultras and possibly  a couple of 12hr/24hr track races in 2011. I am driven by the desire to find how far and fast I can be and enjoy the spirit and adventure of every race / challenge I take part in.

                        Happy Running Big grin

You kept the 12/24 hour track stuff quiet....or was I not listening?Roll eyes  I might, just might do the 24 hour @ Tooting later on in the year

Well I am debating to enter Crawley 12hr as there are still places going.

Tooting Bec 24hr is a definite possibility as I have a clear schedule after BGR Smile

I'm a runner from New Zealand. I've done a few ultras, my longest being a 100km race. Recently had my first win on the local ultra circuit (a 60km event). Currently training for my second 100km, a point-to-point through native bush and lake country in Rotorua.

Looking forward to learning a lot from all of you experienced ultra runners, and to sharing what knowledge I have as well Smile
