Vaffeldagen Monday (Over 40) (Read 21 times)

International Waffle Day (March 25) originated in Sweden where it is called Våffeldagen.  It occurs nine months to the day before Christmas - the day the Archangel Gabriel told the Virgin Mary that she was pregnant.  As the holiday progressed, it also began to commemorate the first day of spring.  Waffles come into play because on March 25th the women of Sweden would set aside their winter tasks like chopping wood and knitting, and began their spring tasks... the most notable of which was preparing waffles.

    Time to stop chopping wood!

Big grin I wondered why waffles were on sale at the grocery this week. Ha!

Friday I did 20 minutes running and 35 minutes of cardio. I did as much resting as I could between organizing the giant beef vegetable soup for the next few weeks’ supper warmups.

Saturday was SDO for me but I did do quite a bit of walking.

Sunday early morning I did 50 minutes down in the park and around a quiet neighborhood. It was about 29° and at times there was some headwind.

I did a cardio DVD for 35 minutes after I got home.

Track run today and some cardio.

      Happy runs, All!  Smile

LisaMMR - Thanks for the new work and history lesson Smile  Great job on your half - too bad the route was a little boring.

Judy - Sounds like you had a great week-end of activity!

LCruns - That is a nice turnout for the running group!  Wow on the pace, it is amazing when you are busy talking/listening and not paying attention the pace can speed up.

I did get out in the evening yesterday for 4.5, the wind really picked up...but the sun was out, and was in the 30's - downright balmy for me Cool.  Had a good run.

Sooo, bad news from me re: Hatfield & McCoy...Last fall.I was asked to be on a team for a trail run so of course agreed to it, only to find out it is the same day has H&M....I wasn't sure it was still a go, but found out last week that it is....so feel obligated since I agreed.  However, it is a lottery so don't know if we are in for a few weeks.  I am registered for H&M, so if this doesn't happen I will do it, as I was so looking forward to meeting everyone.

Ginny - See above post  Sad    I know we planned on riding together, I feel bad.  How long of a drive is it for you?  I should know mid-April, but understand if you need to make alternate arrangements.

KarenAG - Same thing with the room (see above)....I am torn, really think this trail run would be a blast (it is the North Country Trail relay), but I REALLY wanted to do H&M, I guess this is a win-win situation!

Errands for me today, and then swim tonight.

            Morning!

            Hmmmm, waffles....

5 recovery miles and weights tonight.  Hoping for good news from the vet on Trixie's ultrasound.  Hoping for no surgery but we need some sort of answer too, ugh.  I don't even know what to wish for at this point.  She was OK but loopy when we saw her yesterday.  Wearing the cone of shame, LOL.  She went very lively (or as much as she could looped up) when she saw daddy and then mommy.

            Lisa, enjoy the chopping.

            judyruns, nice workouts.  Enjoy today's.

Carol, boo at the change of plans.  enjoy the relay though.

              Hi Ladies,

4 on TM this am, plus some weights.  Meeting a friend after work for another 2-3 this evening.  We are actually supposed to see mid 40's this week, whoo hoo!

Lisa - MMMM, I love waffles, that may make up for the fact that it's Monday lol

Judy - yum the soup sounds delish!

Carol - the gal I'm running with this evening is a bit slower, so that's good, I don't need another speed session today lol  What trail relay are you (maybe)  running?

Damaris - good luck with Trixie's u/s, hope all is okay

                Good morning, Judy!

Lisa, great strong finish on that half!! You really picked it up.  The pics looked nice-sorry it was boring.  BTW, I can get into waffle day.

Karen, wow! Just wow!  Awesome race, esp with legs on the Hanson plan. : )  I'm with Lisa...can't imagine having time for coffee and more miles  while waiting for the awards or getting...drumroll... $100!!  Sweet!

Ginny and Marjorie, you have to share...where are you shopping?  Those were great deals!

Marjorie, the weather was really bad here yesterday a.m. too. Lightening, sheeting rain...I waited. A half a couple hours away  (Berry) I'd thought about was cancelled Sat due to a storm.  So glad I hadn't registered!

Laura, that group sounds great! Hope it works out. I wish there was something similar close to me.   Nice pace, too!

DR, good luck to Trixie!  Hope it's nothing serious.

Gatsby, I'm glad your legs recovered. Somedays they just want a break.

Carol, too bad about HM, but the other race also sounds nice.  I'm still envious of all those going.

Cindy, have you do the  Chapel 10 miler in the past? Hilly? Flat? Fun?

I did 13 yesterday, but had to do  it as a double. With the storm, I didn't have time to finish in the a.m, so finished it on the hills here yesterday afternoon.  Got it in though.

Turns out I was delusional in thinking spring is coming. Cry   30's and high winds today and ...prediction tonight for 20's with windchill in the teens  and snow flurries.  Hello up there...this is GEORGIA and it's the end of March!?!  Edit  at 9:30 to add-it's snowing right now. Very light, but still...

Hey!  Busy weekend here.  Saturday was the Azalea Trail 10K in Mobile.  53:35.  About average for me, but after all the sneezing and hacking I am ok with it.  Spent the afternoon organizing the house and went over to see DS1 and his wife for the evening.   Sunday did 8.5 with my running friends.  So good to get back out there with them.  After church went to tri training.  The lake swim was better, not as cold as last week, but I am still having trouble breathing.  Wetsuit has stretched a little--I got it on first try this time, but still seems very constrictive.  Did a 16 mile group bike ride --wow was it windy!  Really had to hold on to keep from getting blown over. Came home, raked leaves, washed the dogs, dinner, dishes--worn out.  This morning made it through group power class but was still tired from yesterday.  Need to sit at my desk and recover today!

Holy cow!  The temp dropped 40 degrees last night!!!  And of course I just packed up all my winter clothes this weekend.

Damaris--hope you get good news from the vet.

                  Yay Karen!!!  $$$$$$ Smile

                  Check y'all later!

no snow here, but this am is the warmest it will be in the morning all week. So, I got in a good 5 miler - no foot pain. Some hammy discomfort that I will have to roll and stretch out later.
50:26 - - the pace was consistent until I did a 10:26 4th mile - about 30 secs slower than my other miles - guess I got a bit distracted.
Anyway, I got into the Peachtree, so I'm headed to the ATL for July 4th. Smile I'm hoping to do a local 10K in May - like, 2 miles from my house - how could I ~not~ do it? & hopefully the 1/2 at H/M in June. I'd love to do the full, but dunno about ramping up that quick. If I can get in a 12 miler, I will sign up for the 1/2 on 4/13 & then go from there on mileage. Anyone doing a reeeeaaaallly slow full at Hatfield?

                    Ummmm...waffles?  I'm a total carb freak - sounds wonderful!!

Sue - you can thank me for the god-awful temperature drop - - I bought & wore flip flops ANS had the nerve to wash my car... that guarantees us the next ice age.  Roll eyes  sorry....     Tongue

                    ginnyb

Carol.....Oh that's too bad, I wanted to meet you too.  I will just play it by ear on the driving.  I can drive myself, no problem.  I really don't know how long the drive is...I am thinking 6 hours or so?  I need to map it and find out.

marjorie....where are we staying for the H/M again?  Was it Hampton in KY?

camille....I got my comforter set at Macy's....big sale this weekend.

Damaris...hope you have good news about Trixie.

Lisa...I thought it was time to stop chopping!  Unfortunately we got 6 inches of snow last night.  Went to bed last night the forecast was that we were not going to get any of that rotten white stuff.  Wrong!!!  Sheesh, enough already!

Sorry that even those of you further south and getting cold weather also.  Do you really think this is going to end?

Planning on doing WT tonite, or on my lunch hour...

Okay girls, hold me accountable. I am going to write a cover letter tonight and send out a resume. Came across a job posting that sounds perfect for me, but it's over in Arlington so I've been on the fence about even bothering. I would go from a 5 mile drive to work to that plus a 40 minute train ride. And I would most likely lose my Friday afternoons off. But I just don't think I can stay here much longer. I emailed the job description to my friend (former boss) and asked her opinion and her reply was "the job description looks tailor-made for Karen". And she knows me and my capabilities and strengths and weaknesses professionally probably better than anyone. So I think I need to at least send in a resume.

And we have snow. Probably the biggest snow of the season. I am not pleased! DH is of course working from home today, and I, of course, am at work. I have 8 easy on my schedule and they will probably end up being on the TM. Not looking forward to that.

Also, I now want waffles. About to go to lunch with friend mentioned above - think she'll agree to a breakfast place?

Carol, selfish me hopes you don't get into the trail relay, but the rest of me knows that whatever works out, you will enjoy it. We will miss you if you do the trail thing, but we will understand. You are right, this is a good "problem" to have - you can't lose!

Damaris, hoping for good news on Trixie. The little furries do own a big chunk of our hearts. I hope she's okay.

Laura, some great runs for you lately! Take an easy day, okay? You're making me tired.

camille, nice run, even if you had to break it up. This weather is killing me, sounds like it's been crappy almost everywhere lately.

Sue, just reading that first paragraph made me tired. Nice to get back to work today so you can take it easy!

Amy, my friend Jeri (she used to post on Masters on RWOL) ran H-M last year in 6-1/2 hours. She's running it again this year and is a lot of fun. I hope you can make it, whether you decide on the half or the full.

Ginny, I think it took me 7.5 hours last year, and you are probably closer than me, so 6 would sound about right to me. And yes, it's the Hampton Inn in Pikeville, KY. Or is it Pikesville? Well, one of those. Nice 5 miles yesterday!

Thanks so much all for the kind words on my race yesterday. I still can't believe they were handing out envelopes of cash for prizes! Funny comments on the time between finish and awards. This was a big charity thing, so there were still lots of people finishing after an hour (lots of walkers) when they were getting ready to do the awards. I think they had 3,500 signed up, over 2,300 finishers, and I finished 49th. So it was definitely a slower crowd than you'd see for a lot of 5Ks.

                        Okay, going to lunch,

10.5 windy miles.  New shoes (Still using Blurrs) as my other had over 660 miles on them.  Lisa no waffles here!  Guess I did leave off a letter in my post yesterday.

Carol I hope you can still do HM!

                          Laura another double?  Go girl!

Camille I got mine at Anns Linens.  It is a dicounted place.  A chain but not sure where else they are.

                          Sue nice race!

Amy I will be considered slow at HM.

Ginny yep on the Hotel  Pikesville or something?

                          Karen doesn't hurt to apply!

Karen...sounds like you should go for it!  Certainly won't hurt to send your resume.  Sorry you got this stupid snow too!  What a bummer.  8 miles on TM is not my idea of fun.

Thanks for replying about the hotel....I mapped it and the drive is just around 6 hours, not bad.

I now have a bad cold, I haven't had a cold in years, I never get sick.  I am attributing it to these darn teeth and the fact that my diet has been nonexistent for a month or so.

                            Fire Jumper

                              Good afternoon, all!

I got 5.5 in on Saturday, and am hoping to get 4 in today.  My race is on Saturday, so I have to back off a little for the rest of the week.  Running group didn't start today.  It's too dang cold and blustery.   Friday looks like a possibility.

Jazzie dog is doing MUCH better.   She has started looking for more food than I'm giving her and she's back to being my velcro shadow.  That means she is very much on the mend! yay!

Damaris - I hope your Trixie-kittie is feeling better! Smile  Cone of shame... lol

Camille - as much as I love pretty flower pictures, I appreciate your sensitivity in now showing them!  haha.  I saw the crocus leaves poking out of the ground yesterday, and I KNEW that spring had to be right around the corner!  woo hoo!

LC - Jazzie is a standard poodle.  She's about 55 lbs, red, and 4 years old.  She's a real athlete.  We do agility together, she swims and kayaks with me.... quite the companion.

Amy - your secret is "safe" with us.... we'll never tell ANYONE that your super secret goal is .. umm......  wait?  what was that again?...  dang CRS.   And... woo hoo on the Peachtree.

Carol - your game, your rules... AWESOME PR!!!  Big grin

Lisa - great pics!  I love your smile in that pic.  I'm hoping that I will be able to up the intensity in the 5K's.   I had a PR in November at the Turkey Trot and haven't raced in good conditions since.   So, we'll see how it goes.  (and, I'll be the one looking for the list stapled on the wall... lol)

KAREN--- WOO HOO!!!  AG in DC!!  (has a nice ring to it, huh?) And congrats on the cash prize. What a nice surprise!    Thanks for the cool race report.

Sue - Nice run in Mobile!   And, I guess I'll stop dreaming about warmer southern weather.  It's not there, huh?

Hello everyone else!  And many thanks for the good wishes for Jazzie.  She's really does seem to be on the mend.   I'm looking forward to my 4 this afternoon... just because I can.

                              Be well,

Karen, congratulations on the AG win! Sounds like it was a good race. Cash prize? Even better. Good luck with the job application.

Lisa, why would making waffles be a spring job? Not that I'm complaining...though I just used the last of the maple syrup.

Damaris, hope Trixie is better! Ginny, take care of that cold. Amy, answered you on runango -- I would stick with the half. Carol, is it bad to hope the relay team doesn't get in this year? Marjorie, impressive spring cleaning. Waving to everyone else.

Some cleaning done at my house, but I didn't find what I was looking for which was DS's birth certificate. Guess I have to order another one. And the replacement toilet should be in today, I hope. We will still need to fix tile since they have to jackhammer it.

Crazy day and I will not get to the gym. 4 meetings spread over the course of the day. If I can get out on time maybe I can get a run in this evening, since it doesn't get dark until 7:30 now.
