    Wish it were Sunday

Snow overnight.  Just a dusting but ugh.  Nothing but cold in the forecast. Though I did see that by the third weekend in April it may warm up.

Rest day for me.  Hence the early post.  Lots of chair time yesterday watching basketball.  Volleyball practice tonight.  I think that's all I've got!

Damaris - wow, 9 hours of sleep for you!  You needed it.  Hope you were able to sleep last night!  I agree, Sunday nights are hard.  Great miles as always, too.  When does toolhead coworker return?

Karen - thanks for the info on the egg.  I'll admit to just cracking it on top the pizza but it seemed to take forever to bake haha.  Of course, I still ate it.  Oh, and I'm no stranger to cheap frozen pizza - the one I buy is $1.  Sounds like a super fun weekend in Portland!  Enjoy your day and safe flight home.

Lizzie - oh Fargo is flat for sure!  Yeah, I suppose you haven't seen that kind of flat.  Our drive up will give you quite a view of the plains, too.  I think you asked about how many 20 milers I'm planning.  Well, I have 3 on my schedule.  You know, the schedule I've been barely following for weekday runs.    Friday's will be the first.  I think I have a plan for it now.  Laughing at your gum passion haha.  But you know now I will be keeping my eyes peeled for that brand and flavor!  Good luck with the Road Show this week!!

LIsa - good for you on all the yoga.  I cannot imagine ANY day where I will be able to sit with my legs in front of me and bend forward haha  Glad it's helping the rib niggles!!

Laura - I'm with you - too frugal to spend my hard earned money on gambling haha.  Glad you had a nice dinner, though!

HCK - I'm annoyed by the weather, too!  Ugh.  Nice job getting the miles in.

Diane - nice write up!  Sorry it wasn't your day.  Like everyone else, I agree the back issue is probably related to strength and endurance.

All right.  Let's make it a good Monday!!

9.2 for me. Last 2 miles were speedy. Abs tonight.

Oh man, another good run in the books. That was the most normal I have felt since the race. WOOT WOOT. PF was okay and my calf cramps were okay. A good run = a good start to the week! I was hovering around 9:20 the last 2 miles..that felt good! I start back up my regular speed work this week. Putting in some extra miles so I can continue my gradual climb to that 60. Wink

Not ready to be back at this place. Exec's start arriving today - you know, the lying ones. There is the CFO on our account - who is SUPER nice and always reaches out to me to see how things are going (which is strange - why me?)..I think if we were to ask me..I would be honest. I wouldnt sound the alarm on the lying senior management..but I would "beat around the bush". We will see how it goes!

I think we are on our final chilly days. We will be in 70s by the end of the week (and rain..my LR will be a wet one ). We don't have Spring here..we jump from Winter to Summer. Not ready.

Tessa – Nice run yesterday! Oh no, hope you aren’t up by much!

Karen – Uhm, that egg on pizza idea sounds really good. REALLY GOOD. Nice run yesterday! I was loving the photos you posted..and it looked like there was no rain! Haha. Glad you are having a good time. You are right – extroverting is hard!

Docket – Nice 14 yesterday! Agree on falling asleep Sunday nights. I never sleep well Sunday nights.

Sandy – Wish it were Sunday? How about Saturday?! Smile Thought of you this morning..again, I had freezing fingers!! But I was holding that darn flashlight!

Cathy - Congrats to you and DD on the race! Love the medal. How is the foot today?

        Have a great day everyone!

Sandy – Enjoy your rest day!! Funny, we were complaining about weather..but opposite Smile Hope volleyball practice goes well tonight! You are probably the smarter one for taking Monday as a rest day. Considering Sunday nights are usually an awful night sleep Smile  Thanks for keeping your eyes peeled for my gum!! Smile I think you could still get three 20’s in..its only getting warmer from here Smile

Lizzie - True!  Saturday would be better but Cyndi said Sunday was her Funday   Dang, girl, killer miles!  Glad you are feeling so good.  You're going to have to bring a blanket and pillow and take a nap at Fargo after you finish while you are waiting for gramma here to stroll in.  Have a good day!

Wow! Is it Monday already???  The weekends always fly by!

Yesterday I did manage to get the grass cut and also rolled my quads and back.

              Swam this morning.

Guess I'd better get some work done !!

Sandy - That song is going to be going thru my mind all day    I’m with you, ready for a little spring!  What’s your LR this week end?

Lizzie - Glad you had a great run!!!  When is your next marathon???

Karen - I bet all that “extroverting” brought you some good information!!!  Sounds like a fun time.

Diane - Sorry about the race, I know was not the results you wanted, but seriously you got out there and did what you could!  Many, many, many, people would never attempt that!  So please don’t be hard on yourself!

Did my run Saturday, then hiked 2 hours with DH in the Forest.  We are Planning for a hiking trip to New Zealand.  there is a 19 mile hike on this trip and we have to do a 18 mile test hike in June to prove that we can “handle” the miles....not worried about myself....sooooo, you get what I am saying here, right????

Weather looks pleasant today Smile. Running later today!

Will be back later to check on everyone!

                Trails

Thank you all for your kind words.  I'm still going back and forth in feelings...failure/quitter/loser and then I get angry and am trying to figure out how to fix it.  And there's the "well it was a 24 mile supported training run".  There is that which is hard to do at home.  And I did do that 24 miles in about 7 and a half hours so without the back issues and the time in the AS's I could have gotten at least close to the 9 hours.  Had to take some Tylenol today as the back is sore.  I've reached out to one of the personal trainers up at the fitness center,  not a runner (they are rarer than hen's teeth here) but maybe she can put a machine-less training plan together for me to strengthen my back/core.  I also realized I really need to put on some weight.  Stepped on the scale and was 92 lbs and 15% body fat....way too low.  I need to have some blood drawn to see if my thyroid is acting up again too.

Sandy, wow more snow, what fun (sarcasm).  I sure hope the weather gets to be exactly what you want it to be.  Hope volleyball practice goes well.

Karen, sounds like coaching was quite the right fit for you.  Glad you are enjoying it.  After watching the 100 milers come through the AS Saturday night I am so impressed with anyone even attempting that distance.  It certainly made it more "real".

Tessa, I had said I would and since I still could move (if slowly) then I wanted to do my part.  If nothing else it kept me from going back to the hotel alone and crying myself to sleep and feeling ever lower that slime.

Damaris, is that a new record for sleep for you?  I know you normally say you don't sleep that much.  I do, and love it.

Lizzie, it's hard to speak up like that unless you are in an exit interview.  Good luck today.

HCK, I agree it must be strength related.  I was doing fine until we turned into the wind and I had to bend to push forward...even so I managed 3 miles of that before twinges started at mile 20.  Learn something every single time, even if it's the hard way....lol.

                  Thanks Carol.

                  Hi Sue.

Hi everyone, I need to get busy.

EDIT: wind was 21 mph with gusts up to 29 mph...mmm still need core/back work but no wonder I was leaning into it.

                  Running with the Turtles

Monday, but last Monday before vacation!     Watched some basketball, Loyola is my sister's alma mater.  She was too scared to watch the game though.    5K race on Sunday was good.  We got there really early and I scored some parking so we didn't have to mess with the shuttle.  It was in the upper 20's when we got there, with a bit of a breeze.  They had a tent set up but it was really dark inside and not much warmer.  So we sat in the car until about 30 minutes before the race.    We tried to go in the tent, but with over 1200 people, the tent was packed and kind of stinky!  DD decided before the race that she wanted to go for a sub 30 minute 5K and a PR.  I had checked out the course elevation beforehand and it was fairly hilly, with a long uphill for the last 3/4 mile of the race.  Her previous PR was a 29:57 on a flat, slightly short course during the first race of the series in perfect temps.  She was really losing steam in the last mile, and wanted me to grab her hand and help her.  I knew we were really close.  My RB had made me promise not to sprint at the end (she thought it would hurt my foot).  So I told DD that she had to go.  She later told me that she didn't hear me but then she saw the finish line and took off.  She finished in 30:00 exactly.  She was a little disappointed, but it was a tough race.  She said she was just happy that she didn't have to run in the cold again!    It was another AG first for her.  I was 13/50 in my AG, so I suppose not horrible for my first race as a slow(er) 49 year old.

Sandy, that is actually a Bangles song.  Not that it matters.    I am a fan of Susanna Hoffs however.  Ha, I had to figure out all this talk about shagging.    Nice of your friend to "try out" this guy for you, haha.  You can't actually have a relationship with this guy, we would all keep thinking about him as the "shagging dude".    Seriously though, 8 mo widowed would be tough.  Though it sounds like your friend is "helping" him get over it.    I was telling DD that Spring doesn't come until April around here.  Haha, a 14 miler in Aug will be hot.  At least it's early August.  I used to do a half in Madison in mid August when I first started running.  I guess I didn't know better?    One year it was red-flagged.  I used to do a half in June and then the one in Aug and wonder why my time in Aug was just a little faster than the one in June.  Now I generally avoid any races in August.

Lizzie, nice run!  That CFO sounds like he knows that you really know what is going on there.  And maybe that you will be honest about it?  That foot is a little sore today.  I think there is actual improvement, it's just really slow going!  Sorry about your favorite gum.  I will have to keep my eyes open for it!    I think super-flat courses are tough.  Too much repetitiveness?  The hills give your legs a break.     I am noticing the same thing about my parents, they are aging.  Sigh.

Carol, trip to New Zealand?  Sounds amazing!  Haha, I hope you can handle the hiking.

Diane, so sorry about the back issues!  You are definitely not a loser or quitter.  And I think it does sound fixable, I think HM's would be too easy for you.

Damaris, 9 hours of sleep?  That sounds like a lot for you!

Karen, the trip sounds great so far!

Laura, casinos are not my thing either.  I can't stand losing money.  I just do nickel slots.  Do they still have those?

Lisa, wow, nice miles!  Nice yoga too.

                    Trails

Thank you Cathy, your DD is so fantastic...I'd fall all over myself with a 30 min 5k..please tell her congratulations.  Nice your foot is feeling better.  I was surprised I had no real foot pain and happy about that at least.

Since I'm walking and not running I've told myself I don't need to do speed work but I think that I could benefit for some.  And I need to get off that treadmill and do the hilly gravel roads.  Saturday looks to be ok so far...high of 65 with S winds at 10 to 15 mph.  I'll have to check as it gets closer since they have problems forecasting.  We're getting rain most of the week so at least no dust on the roads.

Laura, no never been a fan of casino's...too much cigarette smoke, too loud, and hate wasting my money.  My parents live in the Biloxi area and they finally have a smoke free casino that my mom goes to.  They both went a lot when they first moved there but my dad's heart problems make walking around difficult for him so he doesn't go anymore.

                      ginnyb

Awww Diane, sorry the race did not go as planned, but, as I have said before,  you accomplish a lot more than I would even think of doing!  24 miles is wonderful and the fact that you felt well for most of that speaks volumes, I have yet to even run half a marathon and feel good all the way through!  So congratulations!  I agree with the other ladies that running/walking into that headwind probably threw your body out of whack.  Hope you continue to feel better.  The core work will definitely help.

Cathy....nice running for you and your DD!

Karen...sounds like you had a good time and some nice runs.

So after a terrible 7 miles yesterday I almost did not go to leg day at the gym today, but I did and I felt great!  I felt so good that afterwards I went to the hill and did 8 repeats and they felt easy!  I know that when I started doing these hill repeats with trainer that they just about killed me and today I just ran up like nobody's business!  So, feeling good right now.

I am going to Columbus again this week, leaving tomorrow after work and coming back Thursday.  No reason, just some R&R with my friend.  I think my DH enjoys the days I am gone too, we all need a break once and awhile.  I'm sure he likes having the house to himself as much as I do.

Lizzie...I will look for your gum while I am down there.

Cathy - LOL ooops - guess I just revealed my musical ignorance!  I always thought that was Cyndi Lauper doh!  Huge congrats to you and DD at the 5K.  Wow, she's a speedy little thing.  I wouldn't be able to keep up!

Carol - shooting for 20 on Friday.  What about you?

Judy - hey, thanks for the potato soup recipe.  So easy and pretty good, too!  I'd make it again but maybe add some more vegetables next time.

Holy cow lots of grumpy people today!  My coworker chomped on me for asking a question.  Pretty sure he was mad because he didn't know the answer.  Not a big deal just say so, sheesh!  Let's hope the middle schoolers are in a little better mood.

Wanted to say HI to Diane and say I am sorry you had difficulties.  You WILL get there, you just need to figure out how to overcome your back woes.  I look forward to seeing/meeting you at Brazos for our 50 miler, you can do it, just work slowly towards it.  Find some strength stuff to help your back.  I thought of you of my return run, as much of it was into the wind, but nothing like yours.  You are still new to this, don't be too hard on yourself.  HUGS.

Sitting here, drinking a blue gatorade slushy, and damn, it is good.  Just got back from my run - or run/walk.  10 miles.  I did walk the last 1.5 without any running, but that's OK.  I was out there and time on my feet getting back into it.  Overall I was pleased.  I generally walk the first half mile as a warm up and I was at a 15.5min/mile pace.  Pleased as my last mile was 16mm.  WARM day out, it was about 73 when I started and 82 just now.  Welcome to Texas.

Gotta boogie, finish my slushy, shower and get out of here.  Will try for personals later.
