6.3 for me. Body pump after work tonight.

Nice and easy 6.3 . It was 65 out so I was expecting it to be super humid..but it actually wasn't bad at all. We were supposed to have rain too..so I went sans headphones..was a good run! I am still achy and muscles are tight in the legs..can't wait for my massage!!

Since I have a long day today, I took Ruger to doggie day care. I toured the place and it looked really nice. I am sure he was intimidated because when we drove up all the dogs started barking at him and he looked confused. But, like Karen said, they are going to introduce him one by one. I hope he does okay!! I was sad to leave him in a new place. Hope he has fun!

Heard some wonderful news on the weather channel this morning - temperatures dropping the rest of the week! High in the low 50's by the weekend. I will take it!

Kathryn – Congratulations on the race!!! I laughed out loud at the suspicious bag because it was probably just a bag full of GU. LOL. I honestly had never heard that you run over a 2 mile bridge! Glad you made it! I am trying to think of what bridge that is! I am happy that you honored me hehe. AREN’T THEY GOOD?! Which one was your favorite?? They have really good peanut butter brownies, too. Obviously it is owned by some stoners. Hope you had a safe trip back! You did great!

Lori – Hang in there! What race are you doing??? I notice I am hungrier on days when I don’t run or exercise too. Not sure why that is..but tapering it’s worse. Then your just a bloated mess. BEEN THERE. Hang in there girl!

Karen – You are the energizer bunny. Haha. Nice job on the miles. You must have hulk legs – oh wait, you do Smile haha. Thanks for the info on the doggie day care. I am hoping it helps change things up a bit for him so he isn’t in the crate all day.

Off to check emails. MAMMEL is working from home today. Good..I didn't want to see those pants. Have a great day everyone!

      Mighty Mouse

HuronHeart, I just saw the post about your being approached by someone in a car. If anyone in a car stops or hesitates when I am running, I take that as a threat. If they try to say something, I never go closer to listen, never say anything, and turn on the very angry face. I also try to run at an angle where he cannot drive and I notify police. Please carry your phone and good for you for having pepper spray. That is so frightening. Even though I am almost 75, I get followed and approached. It’s epidemic with gawking old men in the park and pawing at the gym.  It never stops. One thing I did was to be more assertive and aggressive about my body language and it has helped.

Monday I got out a little earlier so I got in 50 minutes easily before the rain began.

Yoga done. Two and a half hours of volunteer work done.

Today I am off to run parts of the trail and then possibly to go to volunteer at the library again. Doing my yoga right now.

        Safe and happy runs, All!

WTF is wrong with some men that think they can do such things?  It makes me so angry just thinking about it.  And now the news is full of stories of sexual harassment.  Until this job most of my jobs have been working with guys and with the exception of one jerk in the Army I have not had any problems.  I've read just yesterday that there were some incidents with harassment at the Pumpkin Holler.  It was run pretty much along side a nature preserve but people live out there.  SE OK can be kind of Deliverance like but really during an ultra?  Race management is taking it to the local authorities and some people are writing up statements. The race management had a vehicle or two driving the course to check on runners fairly regularly so it was put to a stop quickly.

Lizzie you'd have loved it here this am...46 degrees.  I was freezing, still am cause I swear the AC is on at work.

Those of you who've been there done that...what is a good recovery plan?  Most of my soreness is receded except for the left side of my back down near the hip, whatever that muscle is.  I've thought about going to the fitness center on Wed at lunch and just doing the recumbent bike, low impact stuff.  And then working in the yoga stretches at night again.  Then next week start back with some small miles on the TM on my regular workout days and continue with cross training on Wed and Fri. I've not heard back about the 25k to 50k upgrade so I'm just planning on making the 25k the last run of the year.  I do have a week long trip to Biloxi to see my parents at thanksgiving and since I'm taking DD and GD don't think I'll be doing much of anything then.

I'll wave to everyone as I need to get started with work.

5 miles this morning.  BF walked the pups. When I got back Skye was all excited so I took her for a quick trot to round out my miles.

Lizzie--I hope today is not another "crappy" day.  At least mammel is OOO. My pups LOVE doggie day care.  They are always exhausted when I pick them up.

Tessa--glad your kitties were adopted Smile

Kat--yes!!  Definitely need a MCM jacket.  I bought one but forget to wear it.

Diane--Biloxi at Thanksgiving???  Stennis Space Marathon is Saturday after Thanksgiving.  M, HM, 5k distances. Flat course, very little traffic on Stennis.  I'm thinking about the HM--I fly out Sunday morning, so if I do the HM it will be my long run for the week. Check it out at

Sue I considered that but the time limit is firm and my HM time on roads is in the 3:30 to 3:45 time frame. Plus my dad's bday is the 25th and DD's is the 27th. My dad's health is pretty bad and I want to spend time with him rather than run.  My mom is also 81 this year with my dad turning 82.  Not many years left and I live too far away to visit often.  Nice miles.  I'm thinking of getting Chuckie to run some with me and see how he'd do. I'm sure he'd love it.

              Running with the Turtles

3 Mi this morning on the TM. It was dark, windy, rainy and in the 40's outside.  My foot feels OK during the run and is a bit sore after.  I just want to get in good enough shape to pace DD this weekend at her 5K.

Lizzie, it would be nice if it were Friday.    Aww, I bet Ruger will be fine at doggie daycare.  Kind of like dropping a kid off at daycare, I suppose.    Sounds like nice running weather for you this morning!  I could use some 60's before running in the 30's.    I am kind of torn about going to the doctor for my foot.  I talked to someone at the running clinic and he suggested talking to their specialist (which needs a referral from my doc) and probably PT.  Since I have high deductible insurance, I have to pay $2700 out of pocket.  Ouch.  Anything like a MRI, x-rays, and an office visit with a specialist would probably do it right there.  Figures, this is the first year I had to pick up my own insurance, DH's union normally covers it but they changed their policy so they will only be secondary if I am employed and can get insurance.  I am normally pretty healthy so that's why I picked the high deductible.  Cheaper monthly payments and the company put $500 into a HSA.  So at this point, I figure I could probably limp through it until next year and possibly switch to the PPO.    My massage therapist does a little of everything, deep tissue, cupping, scraping.  Whatever my body needs.    I made an appt in a couple of weeks to concentrate on my feet!

Diane, sucks that there was harassment at Pumpkin Holler!  That sort of thing is inexcusable.

Kat, nice race recap!  We have a race here where the "highlight" is running over a bridge that is about 2 miles long.  Lizzie, you've seen it, it's that big yellow bridge that leads from Bayview to Milwaukee.    I always hated running over it.  I did a half and I had to run over it twice!  I felt like I was on the bridge for half the race.  It sounds like you had a really nice trip!  Hope you are recovering well.

Kupcakes, feel free to adjust the plan to fit you.  The main difference between the intermediate/advanced plans is a bit more mileage and more reps in the speedwork.

Karen, nice miles lately!  I had the new Stephen/Owen King book on reserve and it was ready for me.  The thing is huge!  I could barely lift it.

Lori, enjoy the taper.    Hope the weather cools off for you!

Cathy from what I read it was some teens at one of the houses along the course.  Good thing they didn't pick on me.  I may be small but I don't put up with crap and that was well before my back problem.

Morning!  I have Pilates and 7 miles tonight.

Kat, nice RR!  I have done MCM twice and it's always been cold; I cannot fathom doing this race when it's that hot.  Kudos!

Lizzie, nice run.  Yay for cooling down.

Judy, enjoy the trail and library.

Diane, ugh.  Hoping the cops would pay them a visit so they know it's uncalled for and wrong.

                    Susan, nice 5.

Cathy, glad the run went well.

                    Tessa

Cathy, glad to hear others still read books as opposed to reading them on the phone or Kindle or iPad. I like to get actual books from the library also.

Ouch on the foot and the high deductible. We also have a high deductible health plan, although it is painful it is best to fund the HSA so that you have enough money in it to cover the deductible -- we did that and while the payments were awful the first year I have cut back on HSA contributions now that there's 2 years' worth of family deductible in it. Our plan has $5800 deductible for the family. I still contribute to the HSA but not as much as I did when building it up, and none of us have enormous health care costs.

Liz, Ruger will be fine at doggie daycare. Little kids are the same way -- wounded accusing looks when you drop them off, then as soon as you leave they start enjoying themselves. I worked toddler room for years and most kids have a great time as long as their parents don't keep coming back to check on them. Glad mammel is WFH today.

Diane, when you said "so far only Pinelands is concrete" I did a double take -- wait, it's an ultra, it can't be on concrete, Lisa would never be able to do that! -- then realized you meant that Pinelands is a for-sure for you. Sorry to hear there were incidents of harassment at Pumpkin. Some races do have people who object to runners going by, California International Marathon has protesters complaining about a road being closed, but I haven't heard of incidents of runner harassment before. I've had offers of a ride to the finish but never harassment on an ultra course.

Recovery plan -- another race? Seriously, gentle walking, very easy running, a swim, or recumbent bike as you suggest. Whatever gets you moving but doesn't put stress on your body.

Kathy, Judy's advice is good -- body language, run in a direction that makes it hard for a car to follow you, and do carry pepper spray and be prepared to use your phone if you need to. You probably know this but always run against traffic. I don't care if there's a sidewalk on only one side of the road and you're doing an out and back -- use the shoulder in one direction so you're facing oncoming cars. This is safer because of idiots who aren't looking where they're going as well as predators who are trying to follow you.

Susan, where are you headed in November? The half sounds like a good option. At first I thought you were going straight from the race to the airport, then I realized that the race is Saturday. No doubt you will have canine help cleaning up any Thanksgiving leftovers before you leave on Sunday!

I got in 2.5 last night with RN, along with 5.66 yesterday at lunch, but did not run this morning. Very gusty winds and although I think the phone must have been needing an update, because it said that the temperature outside was 92 and it did not feel like 92 when I fetched the newspaper, it was still plenty hot. So slept in for once. Air quality looks horrendous here and I am rather glad I do not have baseball tickets. That stadium is going to be hotter than blazes and very crowded.I may leave on the first bus to try to avoid some of the traffic.

                      Tessa

Damaris, cross posted. Is that one of the reasons you travel for races, it's just too hot to race much where you are?

Agree with both of you -- hope the local law enforcement gave them what for.

                        WINE o'clock somewhere!

My title for myself is tight Tuesdailies!  Everything is a bit sore, to be expected...

My trip home was uneventful, got in about 12:30am to excited pups and crashed.  Very glad to be home, but of course going to work sucks.  I am still a bit tired even though I got a nice 8 hours in.

Lizzie, the bridge was the 14th St Bridge.  We went up and  around the mall, took a left at the bottom and went over it.  Plopped us down in Crystal City.  I think my favorite cupcake was the chocolate/peanut butter one.  Glad your weather is better.  Hope Rugar has fun!!

                          Judy, enjoy your yoga.

Diane, crazy about Pumpkin.  Jealous you're not that sore, lucky woman!

Sue, that was a cute pic of you and Skye!

Cathy, nice you are pacing DD at the 5K.  Has she run one before?  They are too speedy for me.

Damaris, I never know how you do it, Pilates AND a 7 mile run...

Tessa, I heard the ticket for the game AVERAGED $1300.  I can't believe that...

UGH, big wigs at work ALL week.  No idea when they might stop by either, but of course we will need to be on our best behavior.  Blech.

Have a great Tuesday everyone.  Sorry I wasn't able to go back to the last few days, I did skim everything though.  So easy to get behind...

                          Waves to everyone.

Today I may have overdone it. Was supposed to be 8 miles with 6 at gmp. I was a little slower than that which I attribute to the horrible wind. It was probably not as bad as some of you encounter but I struggled. And now I'm spent.  It took a lot out of me. I need to figure how to best recover from this. It was on the schedule but now I'm worried.  It was 8 miles. How am I going to run 26.2?  I'm glad tomorrow is a rest day. 6 easy on Thursday and 8 with 4 at gmp on Saturday.
