What the Weekend! (Over 40) (Read 16 times)

What do you have going on?

Not much here.  We have our own Mt Washmore to tackle.

I'm going to take my snowshoes and have a go at that today.  Temps supposed to be nice in low to mid-30's.

Lisa - For sure the "What the Weekend"!!!  Enjoy the snowshoes and Mt. Washmore!

Had a great cylcle/yoga Thursday night....was really fun, followed up by a 10 hour day at work Friday....whew.  I was tired when I got home last evening.  We do a clinic (with one of the Gyn/Uro specialists)  She is head of her department at the UofM, lectures all over the country, is the top of her field... and we are very fortunate to have her come here once a month.  BUT, more importantly she is such a great person....is wonderful with her patients, and is just a delight to work with.

Today, out for a few miles, then the Snowman Half tomorrow!

        Happy Weekend all!

        Carol

Hello!  I'm headed up to Auburn for a Western States aid station meeting then will visit my dad on the way back.  Probably will not run today.  Supposed to hit 70 degrees this weekend.  Ugh, what happened to winter?

Good luck with Mr. Washmore today, Lisa!

Damaris, have a good run with the hubs.

Carol, sounds like a busy day yesterday.  Relax today and good luck with your HM tomorrow!

Hello to everyone else.  Will check in later if I can.

Run to live; live to run

4.1. Continue on the pace working. Today I did progressive work for 3 miles then backed off the last 1.1. My lungs are a bit wtf but they are starting to remember how to do this. Now while it is cooler is the time for me to get my pace back strong again.

Cool  and rainy.  Didn't rain while I was out so that was good.

            Lisa how was the snowshoeing?

Damaris did you see the Pilates thing I posted yesterday?

Carol saw the glasses for the snowman half on fb.  Are they part of the swag?

Man, Pilates was hard after skipping it for 3 weeks. Less flexibility, less strength, less everything. Now procrastinating before heading downstairs to get on the bike. We have decided the bowflex and the elliptical are going on craigslist and not to the new house. We don't use either anymore and they just take up room.

Marjorie, when I walked into Pilates this morning the owner was there and she was doing that exact plank thing you were talking about yesterday. I told my instructor that I was NOT doing that anytime soon.

Hi to all. I better get going or soon it will get late and I'll blow it off completely.

3.5 miles with snowshoes and 3.5 with old pair of Yaktrax on trails.

Pretty sure the inside of my ankles will be black and blue tomorrow from hitting them with the snowshoes.  Dumb me trying to run in them.  Much improvement to be made on putting on equipment and technique. LOL

Marjorie, I thought I responded that she has not tortured me that way yet.

Didn't run or anything yesterday, or so far today.  I am hoping to get outside tomorrow morning for a run, but now I see they are predicting snow overnight again....sigh, we'll see.  If it is freshly fallen snow I will go out anyway.  These things are tricky, if it is only a dusting of snow it can be really slippery and the yaktraks don't have anything to grab onto....such problems.....

Marjorie - For the Snowman half you get the glass, sweatshirt hoodie, and coupon for free drink/bagel and Big Apple Bagels....not bad for a very small race!  For $75 early reg. you get THREE races: Snowman, Iceman - Feb, MudDog - March!  It is only a 30 mile trip from home!  Great way to get in some LR's in the winter.

Karen - Hard to believe it is getting so close to you moving!

Damarias - Enjoy your run and heavy weights Wink

Gatsby - 70 degrees in January....my mind just doesn't comprehend that!  Enoy your day.

Ginny - Have you tried screws in your shoes?  I find that really helps so I don't slip/slide away.

Lisa - Running with the snowshoes????  I know people do it, but was it hard?

                          Hi ladies-

I ran 9.1 miles this afternoon - DS2 and DS3 had basketball games, and then I met a friend and ran home. I'm glad I waited until the afternoon - our cold and rainy morning weather gave way to sunny and 45 degrees. It was a pretty day for it.

I'm having a bit of what seems to be patellar tendon pain. As part of my weight loss efforts, I've been running up and down my stairs a couple of times a day; I'm wondering if that could be the culprit? Marjorie, any thoughts?

DH has been unemployed for two weeks now. He's talking to a lot of people and has a couple of possibilities. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that he finds something that's a good fit and provides a better balance. It's definitely different having him in the house all day, although he's been out for interviews a lot. One day last week we were eating lunch at the same time. Lunch is when I usually read, but he kept talking to me! It's nice, too, though. I can talk to him about things without having to wait until after the kids are in bed.

Lisa - running in snowshoes sounds hard.

Tessa - I enjoyed the Charleston posts and RR. No way do you look 70!!

                          Carol - good luck tomorrow.

Marjorie - that Pilates move looks really hard. I can barely manage a plank for a minute.

Ginny - I hope you're able to get out tomorrow.

Damaris - how's the asthma holding up?

Gatsby - enjoy the visit with your dad. Today is my dad's birthday; he's 72. Hard for me to believe.

Off to read for a bit. I'm on a reading binge lately.

17 miles this morning. Very hilly miles. Then baking for tomorrow's church meeting.

8 miles on the TM this morning!  I was going to do it outside, but I was ready about 5:30 and so dark and it was mixed precipitation, so I bailed and went to the gym.  8 miles is not fun on the TM, but I tried to mix it up, playing with elevation and pace and listened to my book, so it wasn't awful.  It is done and I am happy I could do the 8 (with walking).

Tessa-I'd be afraid to see what the profile of your "very hilly miles" look like.  But still would love to!

Cindy-word of advice to dh as well... he should be updated on LinkedIn, picture, have accomplishments highlighted.  He should be reaching out and connecting to people on there.  The more people he knows that he can have assisting in the search the better.  Sending out emails to them letting him know that he is looking can work wonders as well.  There is a bit of a desperate feel to it but I prefer someone who is proactively looking than sitting back waiting for "something to happen".  That would likely translate to how person works on the job.  A way to soften the desperate sound could be to say something about it having been 2 weeks, the to do list at home is almost completed, and he is itching to get back to solving problems that don't include a hammer.. something along those lines. LEVERAGE LinkedIn.  The recruiters and headhunters are on there.  Join groups that have to do with regional business, industry, college, specific process/software he excels in.  The people looking to hire in those areas will be in those groups.. jobs will be shared in those targeted groups.  I would also recommend he be very open and even seek out agencies, third party recruiters. Take temp jobs if:  they add skill or industry type to his background, they are of interest, geographically make sense, etc.  Do not shy away from short term.  They can turn into long term and they show flexibility which a 20 year same company resume wouldn't. If he's having interviews it sounds like he's on the right track.  I imagine he is on top of this but thank you notes (emails fine) are a must.  I've passed on people because they never sent a thank you/follow up.  I just assume they aren't interested.

Carol-is this the same group that puts on the panda run?  I remember that one for some reason.

Ginny-you're right, you need something for Yaktraxs to grip otherwise they become skates.

I am planning on heading to park where there is a long(ish) and steep(ish) hill to run up and down.  Hoping the trails aren't ice ruts or that will get changed.  When I say RUN in snowshoes the time involved would be counted in seconds.  It is hard.  I would imagine like running in flippers, albeit backwards flippers.  Hardest part though was the ice under the snow in spots.

Entering week 2 of the 2 week test for Maffetone.  About the only thing I'd say is that I am having hot flashes at times.  Maybe increased fats?  It's after I eat, not before like from sugar lows.  Or it could be just coinciding with menopause.
