Finally Friday (Read 23 times)

Kilmisters

Amsterdam weather stalking... 70*F. WHAT. THE. F. There's even a warning at race website - that the marathon day will be warmer than usual. Planning to run easy 3-5k today; it wouldn't be nice to run the HM after 4 days of 0 miles. Very excited about the race, expect lots of blabber from my side starting from tomorrow Big grin And, Cathy, no, not going tell which pacer I've chosen Smile Nothing overambitious, of course.

Back to work. New competitor store is about to open next week (very close to one of ours) and found out about it today. On Friday. Before my week-long vacation. Checklist of things to do (calling sales guys, discussing what effect is forecasted, putting together control groups for actual impact estimation etcetc) - lots of Exceling. Fun (no sarcasm), but time-consuming.

    Mighty Mouse

Thursday it was raining lightly but I went out anyway. Temps were cool and it felt really good. I got in 45 minutes before I went to pick up my book.

All week I have been seeing a very big Great Blue Heron sitting and resting somewhere along the water areas of my run. Every day I’m running about the same time and I see him in a different place. It’s almost like he is doing it on purpose. Actually, it is great security behavior for him. Today he was in another new place. Now I chuckle every time I see him. Hiked in the afternoon for an hour. Leaves were falling around us and the temperature was perfect.

DC and I stopped for ice cream and one of the season’s last bees stung me.

Today is classes all day. 2 tea classes, Ohio and the Civil War, Meditation and Yoga.

      Safe and happy runs, All!

      Where is the "any" key?

        Rest day for me! Smile

Starting to go a little crazy..I think of that Eminem song.."my palms are sweaty, knees weak arms are heavy...vomit on my sweater already, moms spaghetti" LOL. Only my palms are sweaty right now.. hahaha. About the race but also flying..AH I hate flying. I take anxiety pills before I get on. Good thing HCBF is coming because sometimes I don't remember where I am. Smile

My only stress over "running by feel" is I tend to run conservatively in the beginning and progressively speed up. The only issue there is sometimes I run TOO conservatively - so by the time I speed up it isn't enough to makeup that time. The paces were going to help keep me in check. I am defiantly capable of starting faster..I  am just worried of starting off too slow. I have always been that way because I don't want to burn out so I try and save the speed for later. Cathy made a good point about hanging with the 4:30 group until mid race and just keep them behind me throughout the remainder of the race. I may have to do that. It just was NOT the PLAN! Smile And what if I have to pee?! How will I know they are still behind me?!

Today's workday is going to be hard. We leave tonight around 8pm. Granted everything is ON TIME. We know that is RARE. We have a connection in Charlotte (can hardly find anything DIRECT from Richmond) and should get to Milwaukee around 11:30pm. I like flying first thing in the morning so everything is on time..tonight I bet we have delays. Oh well..

I am just a ball of NERVES today! My body is going to SOAK UP that anti-anxiety! hehe Smile

Run2trail – How frustrating for DH!! I would be angry too. We don’t need security clearance here, but since the bank is our client and we are in a highly secure facility – it takes FOREVER to get access. When we hire someone we should just start the hiring process and ask them to come in a month later because that is how long it takes. Crazy! Hope things get sorted out soon!

Lori – That is awesome to have a coach! I can imagine that is pricey…

Tessa – OMG. No restroom break until 11:30?! Oh yeah, you don’t drink coffee. Coffee makes me go like, 4x an hour in the morning. I will be on a call and run to the bathroom. Sorry, that comes first. LOL. Hope you have a better day today! So sad about the fires out there I have been watching the coverage..stay safe! Both you and Margaret!

Docket – I can understand the lack of mojo for OTF…I have been getting that way about crosstraining in general. LOL. Did the massage help the tight calves?! My experience with marathons is I tend to run EXTREMELY conservatively the first half..then get progressively faster. Now, I have never had a low 9 minute split…am I capable? Yes. Haha. Will I do it? Not so sure LOL. One of my issues when we did Houston was that I attempted that approach and just burnt out since it was SO HOT. Hit the wall at 22! That was a tough one.

Run4kupcakes – Is the Baltimore half this weekend? I am sure you have heard me say that I really enjoyed Baltimore last year. It is just a PAIN to get in and out of there! And it was during fleet week so it was just madness. Agreed about the wind..sigh..it just WAS NOT THE PLAN. Smile

Laura – I actually thought of you last night because I remember you commenting about it getting dark so early. I realized it last night! Its been a long week here too, I hope you enjoy your 3 days off and get some down time! I guess camping is down time, right? Awe, Laura!! I am sorry about your night last night..you have had a long week! HUGS. Hang in there.

HuronHeart – This week has been long for everyone! Where are you going this weekend? Is there a race?! Did I miss that? I think the check box means you will get an email or something when someone responds. I have yet to get an email though LOL.

Ginny – Did you make a decision yet?

Kilmisters – Hang in there fellow “taperer”. It is almost time! Sorry about the weather..ughhh..what does the humidity look like??

Judy – Sounds gorgeous in your area! We have leaves falling but its really hard to envision Fall when it is 80 degrees outside. I am bitter. Oh no! A bee sting while you were eating ice cream?! I hope you didn’t drop your ice cream! Have fun in the classes today.

Cathy - Road I.D. is the app that tracks, right? I am hesitant to have an app in case of my battery draining. Hmm...do you have an iphone? Find my phone might work. HCBF doesn't have an iphone though. I wonder if map my run does tracking or anything. I need to do some research.

Mammel has his MOM JEANS on today!!!!

I start cutting out foods today. No eggs, dairy or anything green. NO FIBER going in this body for the next 48 hours Smile

        Happy FriYAY!

        October 4 - Milwaukee, WI - 26.2

        November 14 - Richmond, VA - 26.2

        March 21 - Virginia Beach, VA - 26.2

TGIF!!!  I would love to leave work early today but I left early Tuesday...

Made it to the pool!! Nice to be back in the water. I really need to make the effort to get over there a couple of times a week.

I need to cut the grass sometime over the weekend...but when?? I need to bake a cheesecake tonight.

Lizzie, Ginny, Elina ---have fun at the races this weekend. Any one else? Be careful in the heat!!

We are doing a local 5K tomorrow night in costumes!  Always a riot.  I'll take pictures!

          Have a great Friday!!

          Trails

Oh my Lizzie, I'm so glad I'm a laid back kind of "runner" and don't worry about paces and times and the like.  I just want to finish, upright and with minimal pain...lol.  I don't mind flying but driving in a big city with all the traffic bothers me a lot.  Especially since I don't see all that well.  We all have our own little quirks I guess.

Elina, is your race Sat or Sun?  Either way good luck with your secret goal and hope the excelling goes well.  I finally got my routing policies to work in our Purchasing/Receiving program and am now documenting how to do so.

Diana, I've worked several places where I had to wait for either a PC or access to the programs I needed.  Here I couldn't even start until I got my Gaming License (casino's require this) and it's a pretty thorough back ground check.  Of course I had a top secret clearance in the Army and all that info is probably still floating around somewhere.

Judy, the Red Tailed Hawks that overwinter here are coming back...I counted 11 on my drive in today.  Most I ever counted was 20, it's a 35 min drive.  I love watching them.

Lori, I looked at the Strength Running coach program but it was way too steep for what I was looking to accomplish.  Karen's plan is wonderful and I'm going to adapt it to walking instead of running.

I am hoping Margaret is safe.

            Hi Tessa.

R4k, good luck at the HM.

Laura, hope the weekend is a good one.

Ginny, sunny here so I'm a bit happier...actually forced myself to do 30 min on the TM.

            Hello to everyone!

            Seloc

Cathy - hope the foot continues to be less twingy!  OMG on Mr Math not yet deciding if he is running a marathon on Sunday.  Ha ha.  I think I would have to be a little more mentally prepared as well.  Awww the cuddle room at the shelter sounds awesome.  I HOPE I get to volunteer at this one but it's hard to get there when they don't have set hours.  I might try again today.  SO EXCITED you get to meet Lizzie and HCBF!!  Hope you all have a fab time.  I hope you take a pic!

Ginny - yep, if it turns into stress and not fun, no run.  But I hope you have a fun little getaway regardless!  Finished The Lightkeeper's Daughters - I really enjoyed it!  Lots of twists and turns at the end.

Kat - glad the toe is better and SO HAPPY you are more hopeful about MCM!  Hey, it's going to be fun no matter what.  Well, except for the heat and humidity.  Ugh.  Definitely not ideal.

Lori - great run yesterday!  Kinda fun when you end up faster than the plan says.  Oh no on the Cuba Vacation stove.  Though that did make me chuckle.  How long is your long run this weekend?

Karen - holy cats on all the workouts this week!  I'd be tired, too.  But, I'm oddly jealous - mostly because you have time for all of that!  Ahhhhh the benefits of retirement...  I.  CANNOT.  WAIT.  Though, will be waiting a MIGHTY long time.

              Hi Marjorie!!

Tessa - hope work settles down a bit for you!

Damaris - you are getting hanged?  Is that some pilates thing?

Laura - sweet afternoon run!  That takes some serious mojo so I'm confident yours isn't totally lost.  Oooh, a romantic camping expedition.  Hopefully less to pack for just two.  And lots of relaxation, too!

HH - dang busy work for you, too!  Nice job fitting in the core and stability work!

Elina - yikes on the warm weather!  Best of luck with the Friday Exceling hee hee

Judy - sounds like that Blue Heron is keeping an eye on you!  Oh no on the bee sting.

Lizzie - awwww, girl, I know what you are feeling!  Been there!  Here's hoping the day goes fast so you can get there!  You are so very ready for this.  I like Cathy's suggestion of hanging with the 4:30 group.  Use them as a wind block, too!  Nah, you won't have to stop and pee.  Oh dear on Mammel and his mom jeans LOLOLOL

TRX/Bells today was harrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrd.  Oh man - lots of bells.  MCM weather not looking great.  TOO WARM for sure.  Oh well, nothing I can do about that.  I'm excited for the trip.  Running 10-12 with RB tomorrow then a work function.  Late lunch/drinks with manager guy that was laid off a couple months back.  Supposed to be a big crowd - I'll pop by for an hour.  Then a friends 50th birthday shindig.  Laying low on Sunday.  Thank goodness it's Friday!!

              Half Crazy K 2.0

If the MCM weather is warmer, maybe it means the Marines along the route will have on less clothing? A little eye candy along the route can't be a bad thing.

HCK - LOL I like how you think!!  Will be a lovely distraction for SURE!!

Diane - xposted - nice 30min on the treadmill.  You are tapering, too, right?

                        TGIF!!

4.3 this morning, actually a nice, relaxing run.  Now I am just getting things done around here for the weekend.  Have to go grocery shopping soon, not my favorite thing LOL!

Huron - good luck this weekend!!  I wanted to mention I run the Irish Double most years, and so does Carol!

Elina - yuck on the weather but have fun anyway!!

Judy - ouch on the bee sting!

Lizzie - try to RELAX!  Have fun with HCBF  and I'm sure you will be great!!

Sue - what is your costume??  Have a blast!

HI Diane - I hope to have a good weekend, I am just going to chill out and go with the flow (well, try at least)!

Sandy - have a good run with RB tomorrow!!  Not sure how romantic the weekend will be, I think his mom will be sleeping in our camper because his sister in law is having a fit about having his mom bring her dog  (she is supposed to be staying in BF's brother/sister in law's camper).  I don't care either way but I hope sis in law is not a brat all weekend.  Guess I will be drinking more if she is.....

Half - scantily clad Marines??  That would definitely make for a good race!!

                        Seloc

Laura - okay, I had to laugh out loud about BFs mom staying in your camper.  With a pup!  Hope SIL wears her big girl panties and just CHILLS.  But, yep, adult beverage can help all around.  Nice miles this morning!  Good luck at the grocery.  Worst.  Chore.  Ever.

I forgot - happy Friday the 13th!    haha kidding.

MMMM Marines with little clothes.  Reminds me of the pic that Lisa pinned to the FB group of Basil.

Good lord what's up with SIL and the dog?  I'd rather sleep with a dog than some people I know.  Especially my Chuckie...he's a pit mix and loves to cuddle.

                            WINE o'clock somewhere!

OK ladies, I need some advice.  My hammy, which I got the knot in just bending over, apparently still has a knot in it.  I walked 1/2 mile leisurely, then tried to run and it was pretty sore to the point I just turned around and went home.  One, I need to find my stick.  NO idea where it is.  My big question is massages.  I am thinking of trying one. Haven't used one for a race before, just pleasure.  WHEN?  ASAP?  How many days prior to MCM (Sun 22nd) can/should I do it?  I am guessing a good sports masseuse will likely be booked with my very limited availability.  Probably have to get something like Massage Envy.  Thanks.

Elina, sorry about the warm forecast.

                              Judy, bummer about the bee.

Lizzie, good luck with your flight, just have HCBF ramble at you for it.  We are the same in SA, very few direct flights.  Mammal Mom Jeans, hah!!

Sue, what is your costume?  Yes, pictures please.

Diane, good job on the TM.

Sandy, sounds like a busy 2 days!  Yes, the forecast is WAY too warm.  Possibly worse than Chicago.  Ugh.

HCK, scantily clad Marines, hmmm.  In Chicago one of my friends made sure to high five all the hot guys spectating!  Made it fun for her.

                              Laura, how romantic...  Sad

OK, off to find my stick.

Morning!  I have Pilates and 6-8 miles tonight.  Ugh, our flight leaves at 8am.  Who thought of that shit?  Oh, me.

Elina, ugh at the weather. But good luck and have fun!

                                Judy, enjoy the classes.

Lizzie, enjoy the rest.  FYI, my fastest marathons were the ones where I started super conservative and got my negative splits of 4-9 minutes at the end.  Could I have run faster?  Maybe, but I felt better doing it this way.  I don't know if it's better or worse to concentrate on pace because it stresses me too much.

Susan, glad you made it back in the pool.

                                Diane, hello!

Sandy, nice workouts. Yes, hanging at Pilates is fun.  You hang your feet from two fuzzies and can either half hang (laying on the Cadillac) or fully hang over the edge.  I do both.  It's great for before and also after a race.  I did it Friday and Tuesday so far, with more today and again on Monday, LOL.  I have a picture somewhere in IG.

                                HCK, one would wish!

                                Laura, nice run!

Kathryn, I would try doing it within the next week or so.  Up to 2-3 days before the race is how far I would like to do them.

As part of the 2024 London Marathon, I am fundraising for VICTA, a charity that helps blind and visually impaired children. My mentor while in law school, Jim K (a blind attorney), has been a huge inspiration and an example of courage and perseverance. Please consider donating.
