8.2 miles for me. 4 of those were tempo. Didn't start snowing until the end of the run..so didn't need trax Smile

This was a tough one. My legs felt like cement, I was starving (had eggs for dinner) and I was sooooo tired. I pushed..and nailed those tempo miles. The pace was in the 8's for most of it. Proud of myself for pushing. This run was all mental! I am sure I am fatigued from last week..and I killed some abs yesterday at the gym Smile

I did 10 minutes of foam rolling last night and DEFIANTLY felt the difference today. I need to make this a habit.

Snow is not sticking to the roads yet so I am going to head to work soon. Maybe a half day?! I dont know. We are getting about 4"..HCBF took his work car to the beach so I am going to drive his car today (SUV). I am only going in because I have a meeting at 9. I also have my review with MAMMEL today. He already released it to me (meaning I can read his comments) - and he was VERY positive. Shocking. I guess I better think of some goals on the fly. Smile

Sandy - YAY so glad you had a good “nooner” (hehe) yesterday. Glad it put you in a better mood. Runs tend to do that. When can you retire? I always say I will never get that luxury. LOL. I will be a Walmart greeter. Smile Saturday we are going to an Italian place. I think my parents rented out a room there for the family to gather - exchange gifts and etc. Emerson is doing great - you are so sweet for asking. The kidney is still ehh  abnormal..he is going into a specialist this week or next I forget. The tough part is they are thinking this might effect him later in life..as in..may need a kidney. SUCKS. I hope that changes. Excuse me - take that “I can’t” attitude and flush it down the toilet! SILLY. You could get to that PR if not pass it. I put money on it. You are right - takes hard work and discipline but you did it before - you can do it again. I have no doubt in my mind . I am going to bug you about this now. LOL. Smile Leaning out comes with training. Don’t you notice that? Though, it is hard to try not to eat everything in sight during these high mileage weeks.

Kilmisters - No worries on tempo run in the temps - it was 31!!! If it was any colder I would have grabbed the baclava. Shouldn’t have been an issue. I hope you get some snow today! Glad you had such a great practice!! Smile Maybe all the miles you are putting in lately Smile Good luck on the file! Hopefully no night work Smile

      Hi Ginny!!! Smile

Tessa - YES! Grand Forks!!! That is it! I knew it was Grand something. Nice lunchtime miles! Aren’t you tired from the 20?! Smile Hope the meeting went well!

Karen - This isn’t your first rodeo for the marathon - I am sure 6.5 weeks is plenty of time for you to prepare. Are you going to race this one? Or wait for Boston? I hope you know how many of us look up to you! Smile Woohoo! Awesome easy spin yesterday Smile

Run4kupcakes - Hope you enjoyed your rest day! I have never seen you take one Smile Or don’t remember. Haha.

Off to try to get Ruger to poop. He hates snow. Smile Happy Wednesday!

      Mighty Mouse

Arimathea, we have 2 TMs in each building.

QOTD: Stair work here. I have a routine that I follow in the building: I walk fast in the hall for 180 some steps, then go right up a flight of stairs: repeat the walk and climb until I get to the top of the building. Then I repeat the entire sequence from the basement. It’s harder (and really different) than running my Evil Hill (and not so much fun). Does this workout sound reasonable to you? I did it with one repeat yesterday, then ran 10 minutes. Next time I will run before the stairs.

Today I may go to the gym with DC. Or the TM downstairs.

        Safe and happy runs, All!

        Where is the "any" key?

         judyruns

Icy roads here this morning.  I did core.  Office is closed. Several of the area bridges are closed. Teleworking in my jammies!

Lizzie--great run. I need to use my foam roller. I have one....

So Karen---no "real" prizes for the Lululemon challenge?  Oh well, it got me out there and I figured out Strava.  Still a win.

          Stay warm!

HCK; I know what you're referring to: NHL lockout; the first time whole season was cancelled. I'm dreading 2020, because it's not out of question that smth similar will happen again.

Lizzie, oh, so mammel was all positive in his feedback? Funny but not unexpected Smile Glad to hear Emerson is doing well!

Been putting a crapload of work (and nerves) in development object calculations recently; and one of the two this week's meetings that have to do w it went extremely well. Small victory. Smile The other one's on Friday and if it goes similarly well, it will be a great mental pat on the back for me and boss, because, honestly, it's been countless hours of Excels. metholodogy discussions, back-and-forth challenges etc. Basically output of many week mental effort that eventually either gets approved or not in 60mins or so. Fun.

            Waving to everyone else!!

Rest day for me. It's been 4 days of floorball-running-running-floorball; the zipper of winter running jacket broke yesterday and I forgot to do anything about it; no drama at work that needs a followup of calming run; and most importantly - DH suggested we have a dinner out of house. So... Smile Will have another 3 runs till Sunday's game to bring the weekly mileage to currently self-set minimum of 50k and that's it.

Karen – nice ride yesterday!  That does sound like a cool app to spin to.  Yep, pretty nice in MN in July!  Not so much in Jan.  Ha ha – yeah, coulda been anywhere on a lake that the XBFs parents lived.  Maybe you will recognize some sites in May.

HCK – ahhhhhhh rest.  Doesn’t seem like you take many of those!  Saw the East Coast was getting hit with some more winter weather this morning.  Hope it’s okay where you are.  True!  I do feel bad for Carson.  My sister and her family live in Bis (his hometown) so they follow him a bit but are still die hard Vikings fans.

Tessa – nice lunch run.  How was the meeting?  Is this the same one you brought cookies to last time?

Elina – you are too funny checking out what all the ruckus was about on the last second MN Vikings victory.  Pretty improbably and they pulled it off.  I’m not a huge football fan but I do watch – especially this time of year.  Glad practice went well!!  Congrats on the first meeting – no doubt Friday’s will be same.  Cuz you rock!

Lizzie – hooray for 8+ miles in the snow!  The BEST that it didn’t impact your workout.  OMG good job on the foam rolling, too!  UGH on the meeting with Mammel but SUPER HAPPY he finally has something positive to say!!  LOL on the “nooner” – nothing like a good nooner!  Hee hee.  Oh goodness, I can’t retire until 62 – unless they change things by then.  It’s healthcare that’s the kicker.  Mmmm Italian on Saturday – your fav!  Do you get spaghetti when you are out?  Awwww Emerson.  Hopefully the kidney thing turns out to be nothing.  Oh dear, my fastie friends are always telling me I can run faster.  I just don’t wanna!  You know you DO slow down with age.  Yes, I will lean down with training fairly easily but it seems I’ve been so inconsistent with this weather.  My “official” training starts a week from Monday.  Hopefully the weather cooperates!  LMAO on getting Ruger to poop!!!  Success??

Judy – wow, that sounds like a killer workout!  For sure must get your heart rate up.

Sue – WFH in jammies is the BEST!  Stay safe with the ice.

Spin class for me this morning.  Did not want to go out in 0* again.  Plus, want to go a bit longer (and it will be speedier again with one of the fasties) tomorrow.  Warming up to the 20s this afternoon and 40s tomorrow!  WOOHOO!  Meeting a friend for drinks/dinner tonight.  She’s going through a divorce and is finally sans 7 yr old for an eve.  Should be a good catch up.  Happy Hump Day!

              Running with the Turtles

I'm here!    Busy day yesterday, plus we went to lunch at Bel Air Cantina for a co-worker's birthday. Taco Tuesday!  Foot has still been sore, so I haven't done much, the ab challenge and shoveling the driveway.    Walking the dogs also, which is a chore, getting them into their booties and sweaters!   I feel bad for the dogs going to the bathroom in the freezing snow.  That would really suck.    Well, supposedly one more day of the really cold temps and we will be in the 30's tomorrow.

Lizzie, that is awesome that you can do a tempo run in the cold!  I have never tried that, as tempos are hard enough in decent weather.    Wow, nice that Mammel was positive.  I hope the review goes well!  Nooner, eh?     I don't mind shopping, I just hate paying full price for anything.    I am the kind that will head straight to the sales racks.     Kaitlyn used to want to buy just about everything, but now that she has a job she has a much better grasp of money and prices.    Older DD is odd, she never really asks for anything.  Her big thing is going to the mall to eat mac and cheese in the food court.

Judy, stairs are a tough workout!  It really gets your heart rate up quickly.

Sue, nice that you get to work in your jammies!

Elina, glad the meeting went well!  You have been working really hard lately.  We are the same here with snow days.  They are basically unheard of.  But they have snow clearing down pretty well, there would have to be an ungodly amount of snow for the roads to be undrivable.    Glad the floorball is going so well!

Sandy, the warmer weather will definitely be welcome!  Though it will probably be really messy.    Sounds like a fun evening!  Ha, younger DD said something about the Vikings not being so bad because of the horns on the helmet.    I get that the old lady PR is good enough for you, going for PR's is hard work.  And nothing wrong with keeping things fun!     I think you may get along well with Mr. Math.  He is kind of quirky, but I suspect you are also.    He is very set on his retirement though, and probably would not let anything derail him, lol.

Karen, that was a sweet post on FB for you!  You inspire us all here, so it does not surprise me.     It's OK if there is no "real" prize for the challenge.  My co-worker ended up with 91K and it surprised him.    7 out of 530 is awesome!  Congrats!

Kat, tough decision about the job.  Security would be a big deal for me.  It also seemed that you were sometimes very bored with your current job.  Not that it is necessarily a bad thing.    Nice that you have the option to consider though!

Tessa, sorry about the meeting.  Sounds like a really tough situation, too bad that the music program had to be changed.  You are doing well with your "Dryish Veganuary."

Margaret, I have pretty good support in my winter shoes, I have insoles that I switch around.  Birkenstocks would be the best, but not really the weather for them!

                Cathy

                Docket_Rocket

Morning!  I get to run today, yay.  4 and weights planned.

Lizzie, you know better than to just eat eggs for dinner!  Add some bacon, please. :-P

Judy, nice job on the stair workout.

Susan, nice core workout.  I assume our office is closed there too.  Most of the South is.

                  Elina, enjoy the rest, Superwoman.

Sandy, nice job on the spin class.

Cathy, yum, margaritas maybe?  LOL.  Hoping the foot gets better.

                    Conversation at work:

Me to Dirty Bed Sheet Guy:  "That must be your new favorite sweatshirt."  Commenting since he's worn it seemingly every day for the last couple weeks after showing me his new purchase

DBSG: "Honestly, it's just whatever I grab."

                    Me: "Time to do laundry?"

DBSG: "I only do laundry every couple of months."

Me: <walks away in horror so he doesn't see my facial response>  Confirms what I thought all along.  Dude needs to do laundry!  Peeeeewwwwwwwww  THESE are the kind of people I work with.

                    Arimathea

                    Tessa

Sandy, WHAT? He only does laundry every couple of months and he stinks like dirty bedsheets? EEEEWWWW. Either he owns lots of underwear or he wears it a few days then turns it inside out and wears it a few more. Yuck. Gross.

Glad you enjoyed your nooner with RB yesterday!

Yes, same meeting. This time I brought chocolates (leftover from Christmas) which went over well. Fairly civilized meeting and we managed to work out a reasonable solution, aided by a few more pledges that came in. Only one guy wanted to stop the music program right now and we all knew he felt that way. So we have the bell choirs at least through the end of the school year, usually the choirs get the summer off anyway, and we'll revisit the budget in June. By which time the twerp will be off the vestry since his term expires at the end of January and under the bylaws he can't re-up, you have to take at least a year off.

Damaris, I'm going to think of your finish when I see margaritas...

Cathy, bad enough having to wrestle little kids into snowsuits etc. when they go out, I never thought about having to dress the dogs up just so they can go outside and pee/poop! How big are the dogs? If they were tiny I would probably resort to puppy pads rather than going out. (The advantage to cats.)

Definitely not Birkenstocks, your toes would be blue and drop off!

Elina, 50k a week with a young baby, full time job, and floorball? Wow.

                      Susan, envious of the teleworking.

No prizes for the Strava challenge? How disappointing.

Liz, sorry to hear about Emerson. Kidney defect? Both of them? Sometimes these can be repaired.

4 miles this morning, no RN because she has a cold.

Still at work! We got the best kind of snow today - 4" on grassy surfaces but nothing on the roads. Love it. We will get down to 12 tonight so its going to be an ice skating rink out there in the morning! Glad its a rest day Smile

My review went...interesting. He said a lot of things that my teachers used to say to me - I am very smart and get things done quickly..but because im so quick I get bored and then play around and distract others. LOL. SO. TRUE. So we are going to work TOGETHER on adding some things on my plate that challenge me. I had to share some personal history with him since he always brings up my lack of confidence. Good conversation with him actually.

OH! Tomorrow is RUGERS BIRTHDAY!!! My sweet baby! Smile

Sandy – Woohoo on the spin class! And woohoo for tomorrows run! We are switching temperatures I guess..we are going to be 12 tomorrow. Haha. Don’t hate me but we will be in the 60’s this weekend with 30’s in the morning. Haha. A little warmer than I would prefer. Wink Oh no – sorry to hear that about your friend. I am sure she will have a lot to talk about! Actually this place we are going has an awesome salmon salad. So, that is probably what I will get  Smile  The place we are going is not my favorite. I think its just more of a convenience for everyone..and my mom didn’t feel like cooking. Bummer. LOL. I will have a better dinner on Sunday Smile I don’t believe you on your slow down and I am going to pester you until you set a scary goal for yourself. The scarier the better.  Smile . DO IT. DO IT.  Smile  I kid I kid. You’ll have my support no matter what goal you decide! LMAO on your co-worker! I would have said “EEEWWWAAAA” outloud.

Kilmisters – YES congrats on the small victory today! Like Sandy said, Friday will be the same  Smile  Enjoy your rest day and night out with DH!!

Susan – Ugh, I am jealous. I want to WFH in my jammies!

Judy – Holy crap. Yes that workout sounds reasonable..and hard. Haha. Nice job!

Cathy – Glad you are back! Smile The dogs wear booties?! YES. I love that! I am actually going to have Ruger put his on later!! Funny. Are you going to try to get a run in during the warmer temps? Okay, I am LOL’ing about older DD at the mall..because that is the same reason HCBF will go with me to the mall. I bribe him with food court food. LOL. I am the same with the sales racks! Online is easier for sales IMO. You’re right – tempos are hard enough. I was coughing at the end..but I figured that was because of my other habit. Smile

Docket – Oh, I make sausage and have an egg sandwich on an English muffin  Smile  Still probably wasn’t enough. Have a good workout tonight!

Tessa – Bringing chocolates to a meeting – PERFECT. Food always wins haha. Glad it went okay! Just one of the kidneys has a defect. I am not sure if kids need 2 and adults can have 1? I don’t know. I think we will know more after the specialist apt – they will do the dye sonogram. Nice miles this morning. I hope you don’t catch RN’s cold! They are going around.

Have a great night all! I am planning to relax when I get home! Im really into "Black Mirror" on Netflix. Crazy.

Sandy....EWWWWWW  on the no doing laundry guy!  We have some patrons here at the library that have that same aroma, but I believe they have a better excuse at times.

Liz....I used to kind of love to run in freshly fallen snow and I still do if I know there is no ice underneath.  It is so quiet when it first snows.

Damaris....glad you are finally feeling better and I know what you mean about husbands when they are ill.

Elina...I don't know how you do all that you do!

Sue...WFH sounds wonderful, wish I could do that.

Kat...that will be a hard decision about the job, but sounds like you may be more comfortable in the new job.

Sorry that I have not been posting much, trying to get into a more positive frame of mind.

I'm pretty much taking the week off from running. Will probably just run the Saturday short run before breakfast. I signed up for the 7-day zwift free trial though, so was able to ride my bike 50 minutes on my trainer this morning. I know I wouldn't have been able to ride that long without it, plus they have workouts and stuff preprogrammed in. I will see how my enthusiasm goes, but I may end up getting it at least for a few months.

Liz, Riley feels Ruger's pain when it comes to going out in the crappy weather. This is his first really experience with a frozen yard, and he does not like it. The feeling of cold hard grass on his paws is apparently pretty undesirable, as he did not want to get off the concrete this morning. He finally did, but he was not happy about it. Nice run for you! Wow, mammal is giving you a positive review. Of course, you deserve it, but we don't expect much from him. He'll probably screw it up when it comes time to talk face-to-face. Anyway, I would like to race my March marathon, because I looked at last year's results and if I had been 50 then I would have won my age group. I ended up fifth or sixth I think in the 45-49. Plus recent race results say I should be able to break 3:50, and I haven't done that for awhile. If the weather is good, I'll go for it, otherwise it will just be a long run for Boston. A friend of mine is flying down from Virginia to run it and she's a little bit faster than me, so I can't take too long or she'll be stuck waiting for me forever for a ride back to my house!

Judy, that stair workout sounds like a good one.

Susan, nothing official yet, but all the rumors are just a 25% discount. I learned about a month ago that as a coach I could apply to get a 25% discount with them all the time, and was ecstatic about it at the time. So I get that discount anyway. I was hoping for a pair of shorts for the challenge.

Elina, it sounds like the universe is telling you today is a good day for a rest day. Your mileage with everything else you've got going on is impressive.

Sandy, I'm with Lizzie, you could probably get back to your old PR times if you wanted to. But it is really hard to get quality training in up north between now and probably March. Healthcare is the think that gets most people that want to retire early I think. We are lucky that XOM has a great retiree health insurance program that is relatively affordable, and then has good Medicare supplemental coverage once you do turn 66. Eww on dirty bedsheet guy. Inspired me to do laundry today!

Cathy, aww, thanks, you are too sweet. Younger DD gets it - how can you not like a team with horns on their helmet? Does the ab challenge go forever? I guess it probably should.....

Damaris, welcome back to the land of the living! Enjoy the EASY run today.

Tessa, glad the meeting went as well as could be expected. Nice 4 for you sans RN.

Elina – you are too funny checking out what all the ruckus was about on the last second MN Vikings victory.

Yeah, it was funny; as I said - I know almost nothing about NFL (or American football rules), but the Twitter was so full of ''omg''; ''this is the craziest end of game EVER'' etc. that I HAD to check Big grin

Thanks for kind words, everyone; with all the good vibes from across the ocean Friday will go well for sure Smile Had an amazing eve w DH (who's currently asleep on the couch w dog), absolutely had to have this chill eve to muster energy for remainder of the week; both at work and on the floorball field on Sunday. It's not been easy lately but it's somewhat easier to keep going w all the workload than to let it go (as some people do w their long maternity leaves) and then try to ''return''.
