Notes

This was a pretty good race for me. I never felt like I was completely over the edge and I think I finished pretty well. My goal for this one was a sub-50 (trying for same overall pace as last week's 10K race) and I hit it with a little room to spare. Couldn't complain much about the weather as is was about perfect .... maybe a little bit too much wind at times but really nothing.

This course was not a fast course at all. Only one sustained uphill but many short, steep uphills onto and off the bikepath and various overpasses and LOTS of sharp turns and turnarounds. Also kind of weird was that we ran a good bit on levee trail that was gravel which definitely felt harder than the same pace on asphalt. Even one section where we dropped down near the river then came right back up very steeply onto the levee trail but had to in between two boulders that couldn't have been separated by more than 2feet. Don't know how the lead runners would have negotiated that - definitely had to be single-file.

Mile 4 (a 6:51) was a really crazy mix of turns, upramps/downramps,dirt and asphalt. A tough one to hold any kind of pace.

Another great day, fun race and my fitness is slowly returning.

Ken,

Great race! You are getting so much more fit every week.

I was wondering just how bad the course was going to be. Change of Pace has a bit of a reputation.

Thanks. It was definitely one of the oddest 'road' courses I've ever run. It's hard to believe the PA-USATF approved this course for their 12K championship. I predict there'll be some changes next year. It's not like it wasn't organized well or anything just not the course you can get in a groove and go. More like a XC style course.
