This was my return to the marathon after a 2 year hiatus due to injury (Charlevoix June 2012 - 3:50, Detroit October 2012 - 3:47).
The conditions were perfect and I arrived to the starting corral in great shape and without a single issue, which was a miracle in and of itself.
I intended to pace for a 6:56 mile, but it never materialized as I just could not find a rhythm. When I did finally find a groove, it was during a stretch between miles 10 & 21, albeit at a much slower pace than I had hoped. I am unsure why that is but did not spend too much time dwelling on it, mostly because I had a race to finish.
In the end it was not the result I had hoped for (not even close) but I salvaged a decent race (by hobby jogger standards) and have some positives to take from it as I head into the off-season and winter training.
I most likely will not run a marathon in 2015, but will return to what has worked extremely well for me; training for speed and racing my ass off at the mile, 5k, 10k and half marathon.
