Peoria Invite 2013- very humid before the race, but i didnt really feel it during the race. i went out fast and settled right behind the lead pack on the homestretch. went through the mile in like 4th place in 4:42 right behind the leaders. jesse reisser made a nasty move at the mile which billy thomas, johnny leverenz, and myself called short thereafter. reisser maintained the lead with billy thomas by his side and then leverenz behind them with me behind leverenz. i believe i went through the 1.5 in 7:20. after the bridge i passed leverenz and moved up toward billy thomas. he tried cutting me off a few times and pushing me outside. by the big evergreen i cut right behind him and then accelerated around him. at the 2 mile i was at 9:40 feeling ok. reisser was about 15-20 meters ahead at this point. he maintained that lead on me pretty much the whole last mile. i think i was inching closer but not until the end when i got withing 5-10 meters did i notice the change of position. i ended up closing 4:55 to get a new 17 second PR of 14:35.62 and a new SCHOOL RECORD breaking pete fitch's record of 14:41 from 1976. i got second, but only lost to a 3a guy so im in pretty good shape for 2a and in 5 weeks when state comes, i should be one of the favorites. i feel strong, and im hungry for the state championship that i have always dreamed of winning. this was a good benchmark for the half point of my season and i cant wait to continue to improve from here on out
