Great race and breakthrough for me. Sun went down just in time for the race so it was a bit cooler than the rest of the day ~70 and wind was minimal. My body felt kinda weird the rest of the day but I was focused so when the gin went off I felt really confident. Race got out well, and I was a little back the first the lap. Slowly moved up one guy at a time each lap for the first mile or so until I was in like 5th or 6th. Went through the mile in 4:38. I stayed where I was and started feeling really easy. Right before 2 miles the pace slowed a bit so when we hit 2 miles in 920-921, I felt great and had moved up to 3rd. The pace stayed slow for another lap or so and I was super tempted to take the lead and take off but I knew I was already in nationals if we didn't run fast so I stayed right on the guys shoulder in 2nd/3rd. Finally some dude took off and I called in 3rd. I stayed behind wicker and pinkowski for the next 2 laps as we quickened. The pace had gone from like a 71 to 68, to 67. We hit the bell lap and my legs felt like they were locking up a bit but I also felt that I wasn't really that tired. They gapped me a little and it took me until the backstretch to open up and start to respond. I had kept them close enough so when we hit 200 and I went all in I was gaining on them. Entered the final stretch and I knew i would get at least one of them. Passed pinkowski and closed a little on wicker but he closed well too. Ended up closing in 59.4 so best I've ever closed. Last 1200 was 3:13 and last mile was like 4:26-427. Feel really good about it and body felt good post race too- a lot better than last week. Great momentum moving forward to nationals next week
