Notes
Longest ride, thus far, this year (and shaping-up to be my first 100+ mile week of the year).
Also first ride with new shoes. I finally gave up trying to pretend that the Sidis weren't way too narrow...B width, pointy-toed shoes on D-width feet. Not good. Started having serious foot/toe cramping issues and numbness that stayed with me well after rides--particularly for my wider/larger right foot. The men's may have worked better, but then I would have had to contend with heel-slip issues. I have extreme duck feet...wide, fat feet with tiny heels...like triangles. The Sidis are also built on a curved last and I have VERY straight feet. My toes would start overlapping, especially any time I'd have my butt out of the saddle.
Have a pair of Louis Garneau shoes (which tend to be appropriate for "duck feet," from reviews I had read). Overall much better fit...enough room that I can fit Superfeet insoles and a forefoot shim or two. So I went with a pair of blue Superfeet that I already had and 1 shim under each insole. Hmmm...something there may be overkill. I had some foot numbness that was remedied a good deal by loosening the straps once my feet swelled a bit. But I still felt like something was not right on the underside of my feet. I suspect it's the Superfeet...while they are awesome in my running shoes, they may be a bit much in addition to the shims. I also experienced num/crampy hands and a muscle on my inner right thigh seized just blocks from the end of my ride (which are definitely new), so over-correction seems likely. I'll experiment more.
