Notes

Revel Mt. Charleston Marathon. Official time 3:14:35.52!!!!!

Cold and windy at the start (29 degrees, wind N @ 15 to 20 mph at the start, 65 degrees at the finish).

My "A" goal was 3:20 but really wanted to run at least a 3:22:30 to qualify for Boston. Planned on going out the first 2 miles at 8:20 then 8:00 and then settling in to a 7:40 pace but started out way faster than that. My HRM told me I was fine though so I just kept it going. Wind was mostly a crosswind, but sometimes swirled around to be a headwind over the first 21 miles or so. Last 5 miles it was a tailwind, except for an out and back on mile 24 that had us having to run back into it. Also a small hill made that the hardest mile in the race by a long shot.

Ended up with a positive split by almost exactly 30 seconds, all of that was on mile 24 with the run back into the wind and up the hill. That mile was an 8:16, my slowest mile of the race. Without that mile it would have been a negative split.

They had a timing strip at the last mile of the race and I pushed it in as hard as I could. Last mile was a 7:07.

Didn't realize I even had a chance to break 3:15 until I crossed the line and even then I wasn't sure if I had done it or not.

Looks like I need to start planning for Boston!

Holy Cow!!! Dude where did this come from?

I was kind of surprised myself!! I did put an * beside it for my PR's because of the downhill. I really think if you prepare for it correctly and pace correctly it can knock 5 to 8 minutes off your time compared to a flat course and even more compared to a hilly course. My training cycle was good, I had a strong base the last couple years and it turned out to be a good day and when the stars aligned it was a 21 minute PR!

You've definitely been putting in the work! Congrats!
