Diemer run 5k. Morning ended up not being too bad. Overcast & upper-60s. It honestly felt cool compared to the heat and humidity of the past week. Goals coming in were just to run my own race and have fun. Went out about 5-10 meters behind the lead pack but could tell we were not running quick. I don't have exact splits but our first mile was roughly 5:03-5:05. At about half way I moved up to the back of the lead pack. Caleb was pushing it a bit but nothing crazy. Right before the 2 mile (we'll call it 3k) it was down to 4 (Me, Klingler, Caleb and some random guy). I realized I actually had a shot at winning this. But Klingler threw down a hard move that no one could respond to. Hit the 2 mile in 9:58-10:00. Majority of the last mile was down a long straight road. Caleb and I dropped the other guy with about 600 to go and then I kicked hard with 200 to go. Klingler won in 15:05. I PR'd by about 10 seconds with Caleb right behind me. Our last 1.12 was at 4:41-4:42 pace. Don't know where this performance came from. Did not even expect to be top-5 and got 2nd! I accomplished both my goals. Ran my own race, moved through the field and had fun. Was nice to see everyone as well!
