Notes
Not a race in the strictest sense-"paced" (which is to say, hung on for dear life) Alfredo for 9 miles in middle of LA Marathon. It was great being there-watching the leaders (men and women) at around mile 14-15 was very cool. It was also a lot of fun being in such a large crowd-I've never been a part of anything like that as I've never done any marathon of any size.
Pre Run Week:
I did a long run (14) on Monday, but after that was good about tapering down.
Pre Run:
This was pretty crappy. I had to get to the 13-14 mile point very early, as I wasn't sure how long it would take to get there or how long it would take to meet. So, I was there at least 45 mins in the rain. I also didn't have much on, because I didn't want to run with it all (I cabbed to the starting point). Warmup was negligible.
Run:
Run started way too fast and I had a hard time keeping up. After that, it was decent. I'm not sure if I could have gone faster or not-legs were sore in the usual places and HR was very high (avg 170)-much higher than my recent HM (163). It was weird having pacing out of my control, but not necessarily a bad thing. This was also about as wet as I've ever been doing a race-my shoes must have soaked up a ton of water in the last few miles.
Splits:
7:07(169)
7:00(168)
7:29(171)
7:31(172)
7:40(171)
7:36(170)
7:47(170)
7:43(173)
7:21(173)
9 miles=1:07:16=7:29
Post Run:
waddled the mile back to my place. Immediate reaction is that I'll be pretty sore. Hopefully not too bad and I can race next weekend. I can also feel a cold coming (in my voice).
I'm glad I ran and it was definitely a good workout-we'll see what I get out of it over the next few weeks.
