Notes

Annapolis Striders Metric Marathon. Averaged 6:46.5 for 12 miles. Perhaps midway through the 13th mile, I stopped at a water station briefly to drink water, eat a gel, and drink water again, as I did in the 7th mile. But this time I just couldn't get my pace back. The humidity, heat, and sun had zapped me, and the course was just beginning to get hilly. So after about 13.5 miles, I decided it wasn't worth it right now to slog through a few more miles at a slow pace and simply stopped running. Without stopping my watch, I walked maybe a mile to the final water stop, where I drank a few cups of water and the jogged almost to the end without crossing the finish line (so that my time wasn't recorded). The pace felt easier than last year, especially before 10 miles. My muscles were and are fine too, including my right hamstrings. But I just didn't have the energy to keep it up. Obviously the unusual weather for October (roughly 20 degrees warmer, much more humid, and sunny without rain, compared with last year), but maybe I still haven't recovered my energy from a generally bad week since the Clarendon Day 10k. I'm in a hole now and need to run easy next week, and eat and sleep well, to recover my energy. Shoes were fine: felt big at the outset but smaller at the end, so maybe I should go with the 10.5s in the marathon.
