Notes

3 x (1200m I + 800 E). Intervals: (1) 4:40 (6:13.5/mi. pace), (2) 4:45.8 (6:21/mi. pace), (3) 4:30.4 (6:00.5/mi. pace). Average: 4:38.7 (6:11.6/mi. pace). These numbers are surprisingly slow, though at least I did all three planned sets. I was thinking of starting around 6:00 pace and getting faster from there if possible, but I couldn't even hold that pace. It's unclear why. It was cold and windy, and I was running on a crushed gravel (half-mile) loop in an unfamiliar place. That accounts for something. Still, I wouldn't have expected to run that slowly even in those conditions. And why was I able to speed up on the last one? I wonder if the pace is simply unfamiliar, despite the 400's I've done a few times now. It's one thing to start running fast when I know that I'll hold it only for 400m, and quite another to set out running almost as fast when I plan to hold it for 1200m. I need to do this workout more before I'll be up to running a good 5k. Maybe I should do it again on Tuesday instead of the repetition workout I had been planning? Then again, I also need to do some running at faster than race pace. I just need more time to run a good 5k. But given that I have time for only one more workout, which should it be?
