NEWMACs at Mount Holyoke

The big one. Will probably run the 10K.

Goal: Score. Sub 33.

Got there. Disappointing that I finished sixth, but at the same time, not a ton else I could have done. I was hoping that either Wheaton or one of the MIT guys would have slid off the pace, but once we got to about four to go, they weren't going to. The weather was absolute trash as well. Overall, I'm happy with this race.

Thoughts and notes:

1) Man that weather was trash. About 40-45 and a soaking rain. Miserable for the first eight laps and then fine.

2) Weather cleared up nicely by the 1500.

3) The distance squad did what they needed to do today. Unfortunately, we are still getting rocked in the 800 and 5K. That said, we had two freshman and a sophomore in the 5K, so we've got people in the pipeline.

4) This race was basically 2 through 6 running in a pack and holding steady. I made a hard move with about 10 to go to try to break the pack a bit more, but it didn't quite pan out for me. Seemed to work out for Rob though.

5) With about 1K to go, the pack ahead of me picked it up and I didn't quite have the legs to respond. I was sitting just off the back, but I needed to stay in that group.

6) Splits were about 16:13, 16:21. I can handle that.

This was a very tactical race. I ran a tiny bit overaggressive, but that's what I tend to do. It worked out though.

Plan for the rest of the season: Talk to coach, but I'm probably going to run All-NE. I'm only nine seconds from ECACs though. I have one last shot at ECACs. I'm nine seconds out.

(PS this Age-grades out to 80.73, which should remain the peak for a while.)
