Notes

Fuck yeah! This far and away exceeded my expectations (I was honestly just shooting for sub-55:30). I sorta figured I might be capable of sub-55 -- especially after that workout on Easter -- but I never thought I'd be on the faster end of 54. Overall I felt strong for the entire race. I fluctuated a little with how I felt in the second half, but it never felt like I was out of control or too fatigued. Just typical race stuff. I had a strange hiccup with my watch at miles 6-7 where it jumped from 6:10 to 3:50 and back to 5:14, so that was obviously incorrect, but everything else was crazy consistent! I was clicking off high 5:20s like it was my job. I switched my watch over to the total time when I got to the Navy Yard sign, and when I saw I was at low 53's I almost shit my pants. That really lit a fire under me through the finish line. The weather was rainy and miserable, but the higher temps and low wind made it tolerable; it honestly never picked up that bad during the race.

I'm ecstatic to have all that hard work pay off! I think those Jack Daniels-inspired workouts really got me fit for this distance. So happy! Not bad for a 10-mile debut!

Now, on to Kat's 5k next weekend!
