Notes

Failure - part body fail, mostly failure of Will to push body.

Felt very tired this morning. Sleep was cut short at 7.5hrs. But I really needed more. If not for the group run, I probably would have slept in and ran in the afternoon sun. I felt very sleepy/groggy driving to the location and even starting out.

I feeling tired all through the first bunch of miles, but I was hanging onto the pace. I was doing okay until the first water-break around mile 7. Then my legs just turned to lead. I hadn't recovered from the work this week. Or maybe the sleep. Or maybe the 7miler on Friday. Or maybe just going 20secs under what my pace should be for these is the problem. I'd planned to keep with the group for 10mi, then slip into 8:10 pace. But my legs were way ahead of schedule.

I broke from the group and trudged out a couple miles around 8:40 pace. Then another quick water break and I was feeling better. Soon after, Steve joined me and 8:10 felt do-able for a couple miles. Then my Will gave out on me. I waved Steve ahead and walked for a bit.

The rest of the run was a series of 'run' for a bit at 9mi pace, then walk for a minute. It was a miserable failure. So I decided, if I wasn't going to have a good run through the whole distance, I damn well was going to finish the whole 18miles. I did.

Now I'm beat.

Recommendation: next week take Friday as my rest day and try to recover more. Also might take a long day and just run the whole thing at a pace I know I can keep. Getting demoralized by walking during these things.
