El oh el. What a hilarious race. The plan was to run with Sam's brother and hopefully take the overall win, but yet again, you know know who will show up on race day. It looked like a few men and women would be pretty good at the start. Decided to just go out with the top group and see what happened. First mile was net downhill but we also took it out very fast. Looked down at my watched when it vibrated at the mile(5:08 might be my fastest real mile ever) and knew I was in for a long haul. Stuck with the group so I wasn't a lone wolf but got to the silo and the start of the biggg hill and Alex dropped the group. I stuck behind red shorts guy but still was just crawling up this MF. Caught up breath and caught red shorts guy between the end of this hill and the next. Luckily everyone cheering was updating us that we better slow down because there are more hills to come. Kept my eye on Alex and the next guy the following hill. Saw my dad, Sam's dad and Jason immediately after finishing the hill. For the final little loop, I just tried to push it to finish. Honestly, haven't been running the smartest races this summer but happy to compete. I knew this wasn't going to come close to a PR due to the course but didn't expect the ELGIN SHARKS to be there. Overall third place and first place for women.
Next year, Sam, Alex and I are running as a team of State Farm sponsored athletes. We will be back!
