5 x 1000m interval workout today. I did not want to go to the track this morning due to the rain, so I hit the treadmill. Set the 'mill to 1% incline, 5.7mph on recoveries and 7.8mph (7:41/mile pace) for intervals. After this weekend's huffing and puffing and wheezing 2 mile trial, I was a bit concerned about this 5 x 1K interval workout, but I did great! I felt so good that during the last interval I bumped up the speed to 8.0mph (7:30/mile pace) for the last 600m. From 1.0 miles to 4.1 miles (a full 3.1 miles/5K) my time (with the recovery jogs in between) was 35:10...7 seconds faster than my current 5K PR. So...what constitutes a PR? Does it need to be from a race or workout specifically for that distance? Or any split will suffice?
