Today's workout was a 2 mile Time Trial at race pace. I'm hoping my race pace will be around a 7:45/mile (close to a 24 minute 5K), so that was the pace I was hoping to hit during the 2 miles. I warmed up with an easy mile (10:40) and then started into my race pace. The first half mile included a pretty big hill, but i psyched myself into keeping up the pace and felt good after the hill and getting onto level ground. I just missed seeing the first mile split from my Garmin, but I knew it was between 7:30 and 8:00 based on the times I looked at my watch leading up to the first mile. The later part of the second mile was downhill, and I remember seeing some sub-7 numbers in the "current pace" display of my Garmin. When I saw those I slowed myself down. When the second mile was finished, I saw my split was 7:26 and my full two mile trial was 15:15. That's about a 7:38/mile pace - which would put me at a 23:43 5K time...if I can keep it up that long. I was definitely breathing heavily most of these 2 miles...I should probably bring my inhaler for before and/or after the race next weekend (just in case!)
