Around Ashley and up to the summit with Nye. Found a blue heron standing on the rocks of a spillway, we stopped 5 feet from it. It stood there a good 30 seconds before winging off, and about a foot away was a big brown water snake casually coiled on the rocks. It looked like we interrupted a conversation, and they waited hoping we'd go away. I've never had a heron let me get that close.
