Splits from my watch - 1:00:21, stop for 3:25 at Nonotuck, 14:02, stop for 3:35 at Goat, 14:41, stop for 2:35 at Whiting, 21:17, stop for 6:15 at Tom, 6:41 to the road. A total of 117:02 running, as reflected above. Jay timed only the running and came up with that number, I adjusted the map to the course we ran and got 10.25 miles. We started at the log cabin, ran halfway up Tom, then down to Whiting, around Bray Valley. We went around the outside of the pond rather than the inside, shortening, and the out and back from Log Cabin lengthened it for a longer net distance and a bit more climb, by probably 75' for 2300' total climbing. Great running with Jay, who knows the terrain and history of Mt. Tom very well. After pulling in to the Log Cabin, he promptly delivered into my hands a hefty bag of garden greens! This was an enormous amount of food, including collard greens, chards, broccoli rabe, and kale. My diet has been extremely poor in vegetables of late, and I have just restored the balance. I sauteed them in olive oil and garlic and ate about 3/4 of the heap over pasta with tomato sauce and sausage, leaving a hefty serving for the fridge. Jay is back from a summer job on the Cape and obviously enjoys sharing the bounty of his dad's garden as much as the bounty itself. We both had a full helping of Mt. Tom today. Hartford visible in one direction and Greylock in the other, it was an incredible afternoon in the woods.
