Just before turning toward the road again, on Sidewinder trail I heard a rustling in the bushes. Under a blowdown by the trial side, just about 15 feet from me was a brown snout rooting around. I interrupted a small bear from digging for something. Both of us were startled, it pulled back and away from me thank god, and bounded a short distance in the opposite direction. Very tense.
