Notes

Kept up a steady pace, didn't push it. I set myself a limit of just feeling out my energy output due to various factors. I had a hematoma from my varicose veins on Monday that is still bruising up and I did an awful lot of work yesterday. During the run, my right knee acted up, of course. It was very cold too, in the 40s, and tissues are less forgiving. I powerhiked for an extended period after halfway, until the flats. Then I kept a running pace with a guy in front of me, switching to power hike only on hills. I could keep pace with his running while powerhiking, but needed to run to pass him, which I did in the last half mile. The weather was incredibly brutal, but for some reason I had a smile ear to ear getting broader as I got to the finish.

We had parked at the top, so got right in the car to warm up. We found one person needing a ride down, ironically the dean of graduate studies in the fine arts at Manchester college. I confessed to being a jaded former graduate student, told the story of becoming an engineer and making images with a laser.
