So I caught some blown down tree, full on with my shin while swinging my right foot foward. It frigging hurt. So, looking down it's bleeding and I knew it was pretty serious. Ten feet from an atv trail and out there I saw the free flowing blood from a dark puncture wound, and soon was taking that easier path back to the car. I had nothing but a water bottle, 2 gels, 2 road ID ankle straps (one with a watch on it), and my shorts. Did I need to staunch this thing? I started running back, running didn't hurt much at all. Soon the blood was stopped. With only a general knowlege from maps of where this dirt atv trail might go, I kept on. On and on and on, finallyl rejoined a road going back under the turnpike that I expected. There was a car parked there. In an unfamiliar and potentially deadly situation, I chose to talk to this dude in his chrystler boat chiling out on a closed road in the woods. Five words into my bold introduction, I was simply asking directions. This guy was drinking something, smoking cigarettes, his face was dark though obviously a white guy with bloodshot eyes, gruff. Didn't give a shit but gave me some flaky directions with 10 turns. It was enough to confirm what I knew from maps and I continued to run. This was an old road and where it ended I ran into some teenagers, two guys and a girl. I asked about the reservoir, the girl, 'Oh you mean the pond, you go straight that way and up the hill and there's a pond there.' Cute, sounded about right, two minutes later I was at the pond. A pond I'd never seen before, but one pond leads to the next in this valley. Sure enough minutes later I was at the res, and started walking the mile or so back. That's when it started to hurt, and bleed again. I did some basic first aid at the car, collected my stashes of water, etc. and went home. $20 bucks at RightAid stocked up my supplies to take care of this puncture wound. Damn it hurts now, 6 hours later, can't hardly walk. Hopefullly, I didn't stab my muscle tissue too bad.
