The sore spot on my left foot, a metatarsal joint of my pinky toe with the ankle at the edge of my foot, is definitely an injury now. My tale of woe began Saturday. I set out to mow my mother's lawn, in Birkenstock sandals. Yeah, the lawnmower spat a lot of stuff at my feet and it stung, if I stood in the right place. When I was standing in the right place I began to still feel it , ignored it for a minute or two. Boy did it sting though! I looked down to see my feet and ankles crawlling with bright red fire ants. So, I bathed my stung feet in cold water before donning shoes and socks. A half an hour later I was wishing for taller socks, as a nest of bees I disturbed attacked my calves. About 10-15 bee stings. While swatting the bees, I caught my thumb on my leg or something and sprained it. It swelled up pretty bad and I'm only now able to touch my thumb to my fingers again. So we headed out for insecticide and a thumb splint. This made the mud of Savoy that much worse. Stopping to eat and get at my endurolytes was a major chore, full stop to unwrap my thumb and struggle with ziplock bags. Then there were the stops to re-tie my shoes, or un-tie and empty of sticks and rocks and re-tie. See, I lost my gaiters and now my shoes fill up with crap. It was a pitiful attempt today, had to have a race volunteer fill out my entry since I couldn't write in the little lines due to my thumb. Should have stopped there. By the end of the course that spot on my foot was killing me. It has crept up once or twice a week in the last 2 weeks. Time off is unavoidable, and started at 11 AM this morning.
