Notes

Raining the whole way. Gloves, Poconos v neck shirt, running skirt, white boston hat, blue to socks, rock tape heel to Achilles, K tape sideways across right Achilles tendon. Gu 3.5, 7.5, 12, 16.5, 19.5, 22?, 24? Succeed around 11 and again around 24 miles. I took Claritin, Flonase and Sudafed before the race. Half a banana around 7:45, oatmeal at 4:15 am with mixed berries, and some coffee. Carried water bottle. First 2 or 3 gu were caramel salted, later were caffeine - chocolate outrage, vanilla bean. Somewhere in the middle I had a chocolate mint that was non-caffeine. The tape seemed fine and definitely helped I think. Achilles is good after taking off shoes after the race. Fine during race. I had my left shoe tied too tight, so the first 6-8 miles it was not feeling good. They did eventually work themselves to be ok. I didn't want to stop to waste time to retie them. I should have let them a little less tight at the start. Elbow was good and I was able to switch off carrying the handheld water throughout the race fairly often as it suited the road. Most of it was slanted with the right side down, which was good for right foot and achillles, but had my left side, hip, knee sometimes getting a bit tired or torqued. I managed the up hill sections pretty well this time due to the much cooler weather, and all the up hill training I had done here in NY. Alternate breathing worked well in the later miles when I was having a hard time hanging onto a steady pace on the flatter sections. Would have felt better to be in shoes with a little bit higher heel and more cushioning, like possibly the nimbus. Splits - 10K 56:11, half 1;58:26, 35k 3;19:03.
