Hell yeah. A pretty awesome run. I had a cup of coffee for the second week in a row about 10 minutes before heading out. My stomach handled it just fine and my first 30 minutes were perfect. No pain, no soreness at all. I headed up to Law Island via Mallets Bay. Took some chews at 55 minutes and got some water at Airport park. I was averaging about 6:20s despite the wind. The tail wind on the way back felt strange, I actually had felt more comfortable and relaxed running into the wind, not sure why. The tail wind felt great though and I started my cutdowns at mile 12, running a 5:50 (wanted to be 6:10). I didn't really get perfect splits but there are enough race mile markers that I was able to piece together my pacing. Mile 2 was around 5:45 and then 5:40 (took a gel here) followed by a 5:30. Picked up the LL Bean 5k race and was really flying along without any real effort. Probably ran a 5:15 then a 5:10. My last mile was pretty epic. I just felt so relaxed and in my element. I know I had a tail wind, but dropping a 4:30 mile felt damn rewarding. I was tired but elated and ran the 2 miles up the hill back to my house (met Jess and Ben post-Flannel 5k). I wish I could wake up every morning feeling like this. I'm definitely into coffee before the runs and my stomach has felt consistently strong taking in fuel. The challenge is going to be drinking enough fluids during the race.
