This was the workout I've been waiting for. I've been feeling super tired and sluggish and apathetic towards running. Tonight's workout felt totally different. Not sure exactly what clicked. Maybe part of it is feeling disconnected from my body's signals, like I'm misinterpreting the difference between tired and sore and fatigued. Going into tonight's workout I definitely felt tired, but also what I perceived as slightly fatigued and broken down. I was feeling lingering stuff from the infection, but also from Sunday's long run. So going into the workout I told Peter I was thinking maybe 8 intervals at 2:30 pace. My legs felt awfully tight leading into the workout so I was thinking probably shoot for 2:30-2:32. But then I got on the track and felt soooo relaxed through a 2:27. I know I'm capable of this workout at 2:20-2:22 pace, but not yet so feeling relaxed at that pace was awesome. Peter lead every other one (which were usually a bit slower than the ones I lead).

There was a kid from Montpelier HS there doing a tune up workout before nationals next week and his coach, Carol, asked what we were doing. I asked what he was doing and when I heard he had a 1000m interval @ 2:12 pace I immediately wanted in. I then spent the next 2 intervals trying to convince myself that I shouldn't and that I'm not that fast yet, but I couldn't turn it down. I planned on doing just the first 400 with him @ 66, but felt just as relaxed at 63.5 (our first 400 was fast) as I did at 74 so I decided to keep going. I wonder how long I could have kept that pace up. I didn't even feel winded afterwards. When was the last time I ran this fast?! I closed at An Ras Mor in about 4:35 so that'd be the closest other than an open 800 or 1500 in college.

Okay, so now don't get over excited and do dumb stuff. Stick to the plan. Run the schedule and enjoy getting my legs back under me.
