Notes

3 mile warm up to bike path, then 8x4min on, 2min off. Ran about 2:25-2:30 pace for the half miles that I got splits for. Felt really strong and even paced. Last interval was going up the hill, which felt great. Wanted to go faster, but stayed under control. 1.5 mile cooldown.

Many "weed" plants like mullein, curled dock, dandelion, devil's paintbrush, and plaintain have a two year growth cycle. In their first year they grow as a basal rosette, a round flat splay of leaves, which serves to cover as much surface area as possible. Since most "weeds" grow in disturbed habitats, light is not a limiting factor and it is space and nutrients that limit a plant's likelihood of taking root. In the next year they shoot up a big stalk that grows above the rest of nearby vegetation and scatters their seeds as far as possible to another disturbed site.
