Pretty good tempo type effort. The course is pretty tough as it just loops up Pearl to Williams twice, so half the course is a gradual uphill with a steep downhill down Main St. I felt good mentally, able to keep pushing up the harder parts, and I think my legs were mostly at capacity. 2nd place is a strong runner, but young and definitely not as fast as me so it felt a little ridiculous to be battling so closely with him for the first 2 miles. At mile 2 I broke away from him and put 15 seconds on him in the last mile, so that was a good feeling, but never really felt like I could get my legs to push my aerobic side to its limit. Makes sense since I've spent the last month and a half doing almost no speed work.
