Ran this on about three hours of sleep, maybe. Rain dumped on us all night and everything was wet, luckily the run was fine. This was A-1, the lead-off leg, kind of cool to be a part of. Pretty straightforward run, dirt road, straight and flat, for four miles, with a lot of potholes filled with water in the road. John and I decided that we were not going to get caught up in the hype and go crazy. I was hoping to be about 5:50 pace, but I had some issues. Got out decent, back of the initial pack and it spread out quick. Ran with John and one other guy for about a mile and a half and started falling off because my tum tum was gurgling. That feeling dissipated after about .75 of a mile and I pushed after that. Probably was about 15-20 feet behind John at one point, but I passed him around 2.5 or so. Passed another guy who looked at his watch about every 100 meters. Set my sights on another guy who was way up on me and closed the whole last mile, but just missed him at the exchange - good first leg.
