Wow. This killed excuses. Yes, I had a number of injuries before the race, a lack of training (i.e., I only ran long runs the last month of training--trying to save my joints), the elevation in NM (over 4,000'), and a lack of sleep two days before the race and the day of the race (had to get up at 3:30AM both days). There should be no label for "marathon" on this race--even though it is 26.2 miles. It's tough....probably 2/3 of it are on sand and there is a 3-4 miles hill from hell (There were people who ran it...but, we never saw them). I think the race could be much better started almost an hour late--even though we were asked to be there an hour and a half before opening ceremonies (i.e., we got up at 3:30AM, arrived at WSMR at 4:30; opening ceremonies at 6:00...start time was supposed to be 7:05....I think it was almost 8:00 befre we started...basically three and a half hour wait on site--waiting to run).
