Notes
Was depressed when I realized we'd get about the same conditions as last week and resigned myself to the pain. I decided to wear a lot less and my singlet to get my mind in gear for a race. I wanted to take out the first mile between 5:50-5:55 and was leading the pack at about a third mile when a woman intentionally swerved at us with her SUV and angry face which caused me to jump up on the snow bank a little. That gave me such a shot of adrenaline that I had a hard time catching my breath and didn't come good again until about the start of the second mile. From that point I just tried to focus on pace. I could feel some endurance in the third mile for once. Turned the corner and saw the clock under 18:20 and though "damn, I wish I tried harder" but then realized I don't know how I could have. Breathing at this temp while running 5K pace is like scratching sandpaper on your lungs.
